The Business Process Consultant role acts a subject matter expert and trusted advisor for a process workstream. Activities include, but are not limited to: 1.) participating in workshops with Process Partners to validate and clarify business requirements for the ERP solution, 2.) reviewing a validating solution design, prototypes, configuration, and documentation, 3.) mentoring business process analyst, and 4.) support “level 4” case management support issues with IT Suppliers for root cause analysis and resolution.
This role understands and executes standard work to ensure the scope of services achieve and maintain appropriate level of risk and compliance to internal policies and procedures, including those relating to sustainability, cybersecurity, SOX, and IT General Controls.
Beyond the completion of their own work, incumbent will assign and review the day-to-day work of other employees. Incumbent will provide information for performance evaluations but is not solely responsible for personnel issues.
This position’s primary customers are internal. Incumbent supports multiple geographic areas but not all of Caterpillar operations. Incumbent will seek information about the real, underlying needs of the customer, beyond those expressed initially, and match these to available (or customized) products or services. Incumbent may influence tactical business decisions (for example, providing key ideas for major decisions such as changing department policy, making the basic technical choices for a new process). Understanding, evaluating and reacting to routine problems or situations with external contacts is also part of this assignment. Interaction is within the framework of existing business policies and practices and/or established business relationships.:
Incumbent may consider new courses of action which complement existing policies and short term goals. He/she may find a need for new policies or procedures. Though general unit goals are in place, incumbent sets the plan and determines the priorities and processes that will achieve unit or Caterpillar ends. Position may invent new ways to explain problems, situations, or opportunities. Incumbent may also develop a single picture that explains many parts. Incumbent may develop multiple new concepts to describe a given situation. Problems and issues usually involve careful interpretation, analysis or diagnosis. Position must identify the relevant information to develop solutions or approaches. Developing solutions usually requires in-depth analysis that cannot be done quickly. Problems and issues have a variety of interpretations and require careful evaluation and reference to a large number of options. Incumbent must first identify the nature of a complex or undefined problem and then develop the best solution or application from numerous alternatives.
Incumbent develops well-prepared action plans for the current year and has a clear sense of what needs to be achieved in the year to come. Time spent looking beyond two years in the future will generally not improve job effectiveness. Position receives assignments that tell what needs to be done and when it needs to be completed. Specific performance standards are in place but the way to get to the standards is up to the incumbent. Review is after the work is done except in the most complex or high impact cases. Incumbent can change practices and procedures to get the desired results. Other job duties include, but not limited to:
Validate business requirements for a process workstream.
Validate solution design, including prototyping and configuration for a process workstream.
Validate process documentation as part of the template solution for a process workstream.
Review and approve test plans as required by new content releases or deployments for a process workstream.
Review and approve end user training materials for a process workstream.
Provide “level 4” case management support for business process related issues.
