The Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science with currently 84 institutes is Germany’s leading basic research organisation.
The Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces is an international research institute in the Potsdam Science Park and is currently looking for a full-time “Technical/Laboratory Assistant (f/m/d)” for a group in the Colloid Chemistry Department (Prof. Dr Markus Antonietti) from September 2024, (initially) limited to 12 months.
Your tasks and qualifications
Your tasks
Operating and maintaining several electron microscopes (SEM/TEM);preparing samples for the above-mentioned electron microscopes;performing independent measurements and analyses: Ultra-microtomic and cryo-ultramicrotomic investigations incl. documentation, evaluation and summary of experimental data in German and EnglishElectron microscopic investigations using SEM and TEM, including documentation, evaluation and summary of experimental data in German and English.Organising and supervising several laboratories: Instructing employees and guest scientists on equipment and laboratoriesMaintaining and repairing laboratory equipmentOrdering consumables and chemicals

Your qualifications

  • We are looking for a highly motivated Technical/Laboratory Assistant with a chemistry or physics background.
  • Completed vocational training as a laboratory technician/ CTA or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry or a related field;
  • Good practical and theoretical knowledge using scanning and/or transmission electron microscopes (SEM/TEM);
  • Knowledge of sample preparation for these microscopes;
  • Experience in using lab and electron microscopy equipment;
  • General experience in laboratory work;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary research;
  • Very good written and spoken German and English language skills.
