Birdon is looking for a Technical Officer/Writer to join our team in Port Macquarie, NSW!
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The key accountabilities for this role include:
- Preparation of technical artefacts to support technical design reviews.
- Compilation of technical inputs to draft and deliver engineering analysis and project reporting, open and closing reports.
- Preparation of engineering and project reports intended for the Customer, this includes generation of commercial documentation as well as development of Defence Contracting Deliverables in Accordance With AUSDEFCON Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
- Working closely with Birdon Engineering Team members and external stakeholders to develop technical writing and reports.
- Input into and management of databases such as weight tracking, stability and momentum, and yard design details.
- Technical Bid writing.
- Development of technical specification for the purpose of procurement
- Support to Engineering planning and forecasting.
- Supporting Engineering delivery to project milestones.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE
Essential.
- Experience working for an engineering organisation, trade or other technical field.
- Strong writing skills and ability to interpret report requirements, intended audience and purpose of the report.
Proactive manner demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
Desirable
Knowledge of marine engineering and design principles, systems, techniques, and industry standards.Base understanding of Systems Engineering processes and methodology.

Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Birdon Engineering team located in Port Macquarie, designs structural shipbuilding, mechanical, marine, naval architecture and electrical technical solutions. The Birdon Engineering team participates in marine ship repair, ship build, dredging and disposal divisions, from tender stage to delivery.
Working as part of team and reporting to the Birdon Project Engineering Manager, the Technical Writer is a key member of the Engineering team in preparation of technical specifications, the delivery of design documentation, design reports and analysis to both internal and external stakeholders across Defence and commercial Maritime sectors. Strong writing, word processing and excel skills are essential while experience working in a marine technical field or similar construction environment is highly regarded. Full time, part time, 6 + month contract terms and hybrid office / work from home will all be considered.
