Job Description:
The Advanced Metering / HEP (High End Platform) team is looking for a passionate Technical Product Owner (TPO) to learn customer and market requirements, manage and prioritize the firmware squad backlogs, translate Offer Marketing Owners’ strategies to development tasks, prioritize enablers with technical leaders to achieve architectural goals/reduce our technical debt and learn the customers’ and market’s requirements. In this role, you will advance and optimize our development to not only champion the voice of our customers, but ensure continuous technical improvement and innovation on our products/platform.
We are looking for a big-picture thinker who challenges the status quo, continuously learns and experiments, and looks beyond the current projects and products. You must have a curious mind and be able to collect ideas from varied sources and put structure around scope. You need to be able to create clarity for the project team and drill down to technical details when necessary.

    The compensation range for this full-time position, which includes base pay and short-term incentive, is CAD $90,000-$120,000 for candidates who are B.C. residents. Our salary ranges are determined by including roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • CONNECTING WITH CUSTOMER:The TPO, in close partnership with the offer marketing owner, continuously ensures the team is building the right things, and is building them right. The TPO applies customer centricity and design thinking tools to guide the team towards desirable, viable, feasible and sustainable outcomes.
  • Know the customer: TPO explores and is aware of the wants, needs and preferences of the recipients of their product.
  • Know the stakeholders: TPO identifies key stakeholders and balances their needs with those of the customer
  • Identify the problem to be solved: First step in Design thinking. Identify customer needs and most valuable “jobs to be done”
  • Develop whole-product solutions: understand desired customer experience using Lean UXCONTRIBUTING TO THE VISION AND ROADMAP:The TPO brings the pragmatic view of what the team CAN deliver to the vision and roadmap
  • Understand market forces: Regularly engage with product manager to analyze market research and business drivers behind feature requests
  • Represent the end user: TPOs are strongly connected to end users through interviews, gemba walks etc. bringing objective insights
  • Works with Technical Leads to define implementation strategies in the backlog
  • Educate the Agile Release Train during PI Planning: Assist with communicating the vision and roadmap during PI Planning to ensure team alignmentMANAGING AND PRIORITIZING THE TEAM BACKLOG:TPO is primarily responsible for maintaining the content and technical and conceptual integrity of the team backlog. Consisting of prioritized user stories, enablers, and defects that are ready to be pulled for implementation, and are aligned with the most current needs of customers and stakeholders
  • Guide story creation: ensures user stories are well-formed and aligned with product strategy. Clarifies story details, applies user-story voice, assists with story splitting, defines enablers. Allows space for local stories and spikes.
  • Prioritize back log items: Sequences backlog so that highest-value backlog items are delivered in the shortest sustainable lead time, and in the right sequence
  • Accept stories: TPO validates story meets acceptance criteria, that it has appropriate acceptance tests, and that it complies with its DoD, ensuring the quality is built in.
  • Support architectural runway: Make space in the backlog to support implementation of the architectural runwaySUPPORTING THE TEAM IN DELIVERING VALUE:The TPO provides daily insights that guide development towards the highest-value outputs, and the team towards meeting sprint goals, enabling the team to deliver continuous value.
  • Balance stakeholder perspectives: Make implementation decisions that produce the most favorable outcomes, taking all inputs into consideration.
  • Elaborate stories: Facilitate frequent conversations during sprint to resolve questions, manage dependencies and communicate priorities that emerge
  • Foster built-in quality: As customer proxy PO evaluates the value delivered including compliance with built-in quality criteria, so defects are detected in near real-time
  • Participate in team and Agile Release Train events: Provides crucial feedback from an outside-in, customer centric point of view.GETTING AND APPLYING FEEDBACKThe TPO enables the customer feedback loop, seeking quantitative and qualitative feedback in order to understand where their product is and is not providing real value.
  • Test benefit hypothesis: Develop hypothesis with product manager, validate with customers during development
  • Obtain feedback from customer and stakeholders: Gathers feedback from interviews, reviews, demos, etc
  • Share feedback with the ART: Shares feedback during TPO synch etc
    Qualifications:

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL FOR THIS ROLE?

  • A University Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related program
  • 5+ years of post-secondary relevant work experience
  • Strong experience in firmware/test construction and/or experience in a firmware/test development team/squad
  • Excellent understanding of our HEP/ION product line
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, multi-task and handle pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Proven ability to make decisions without knowing all of the details
  • Proven ability to self-manage time and tasks effectively
