Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the organization that powers Microsoft’s core cloud platforms and services that millions of people use every day. The Datacenter Integration Services (DCIS) team is part of CO+I Office of the CTO. DCIS’s vision is to ensure Microsoft can deploy and operate cloud infrastructure for any offering, at any time, in any location, at any scale. DCIS is a core team that is integral to the planning, development, deployment, and intelligent operations of innovative technologies and offerings such as immersion cooling, the fastest public cloud supercomputers and for customers running their mission critical workloads or providing unique AI offerings such as Azure OpenAI service. The Technical Program Manager position at Microsoft’s Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) Datacenter Integration Services (DCIS) plays a pivotal role in spearheading the serviceability readiness and technical integration of server, storage, and networking hardware infrastructure across global data centers. This role demands a deep dive into mechanical engineering principles to enhance the serviceability of our server, storage, and networking hardware through requirements analysis, CAD drawing analyses and design optimizations. A significant aspect of the role involves understanding the implications of field replacement units, enhancing operational and serviceability processes, and managing risks to mitigate technical rework and ensure timely hardware delivery.
This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.
Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.
This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 50%.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 2+ years experience in mechanical, electrical, industrial or related engineering and/or program management
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in datacenter infrastructure, hardware product introduction, or technical program management.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 4+ years experience in mechanical, electrical, industrial or related engineering and/or program management
  • 4+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a wide range of business and engineering stakeholders to drive impact.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, assess opportunities and develop principles to prioritize multiple strategic and tactical solutions options
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organization and working with cross-functional teams
    Technical Program Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Telemetry Management: Taking ownership of telemetry coverage by identifying gaps in the telemetry pipeline, managing data collection, scaling telemetry across platforms, and addressing requirements and serviceability process enhancements.
  • Serviceability Expertise: Apply mechanical engineering expertise to improve the design for serviceability (DFS) of next-generation hardware. This includes detailed evaluations and modifications of CAD drawings and mechanical designs to ensure optimal serviceability and diagnosability.
  • Design for Integration (DFI): Support DFI reviews, focusing on the mechanical integration of hardware into datacenters. Work closely with hardware engineering teams to ensure that new designs meet both serviceability and integration requirements.
  • Requirements and Specification Development and Documentation: Work hand-in-hand with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to update and refine DFS and DFI guidelines. Incorporate innovative solutions and field learnings into design specifications, emphasizing ease of service and maintenance.
  • End-to-End Program and Project Management: Overseeing program and project schedules and risks, ensuring coordination and communication across multiple areas and divisional boundaries.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborating with other subject matter experts in datacenter engineering, SCHIE engineering, and Datacenter Operations to align and incorporate requirements throughout the new product introduction phases.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing hardware service times and enhancing operational efficiency. Leverage mechanical engineering insights to streamline hardware integration processes.
