We are currently looking for a Technical Reviewer II Fisheries for our seafood business. Working as part of a team based remotely, our Fishery Specialist performs an important role supporting the evaluation of client fisheries around the world against various fisheries sustainability or responsible management standards that use market forces to promote the adoption of fisheries best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or equivalent in seafood/fisheries science/marine biology and ecology/fisheries economics
  • Relevant experience in one or more of the core components of fisheries certification:o Applying stock assessment techniques.o Working with the biology and population dynamics of commercially exploited species.o Research into, policy analysis for, or management of the impacts of fisheries on aquatic ecosystems including at least two of the following topics: bycatch, endangered, threatened, or protected species; habitats; ecosystem.
  • Prior auditing experience with Fisheries Certification Program(s) such as Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Marin Trust, Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) or equivalent schemes.
  • Lead Auditor (ISO 19011) qualification (desired but not essential)
  • Additional language(s) (desired but not essential)
  • Highly organized and able to work to multiple tight deadlines.
  • Upholds policy, ethics and leads with integrity.
  • Excellent communicator (proficient level of written and spoken English)
  • Ability to work with persons from different culture and background.
  • Ability on your own and within a team environment, demonstrating flexibility to suit different people or situations where required.
  • Ability to travel for work and stay away from home periodically.

Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to:

  • Plan fishery assessments / audit including allocation of resources, determination of timelines and communication with clients.
  • Liaising with auditors as required and Audit Delivery Managers globally as required.
  • Oversee Planning and Scheduling KPI’s to Scheme and NSF requirements, highlighting auditor resource gaps if necessary.
  • Support the Head of Technical and Operations in keeping our auditors dashboards fully up to date.
  • Perform technical functions relating to MSC assessments / audits including technical reviews and leading audits as required.
  • Generate accurate, unambiguous, and objective reports following each audit and submit completed reports within agreed timescales.
  • Chase Fishery corrective actions as required to support the Team technically
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the requirements of each Fisheries schemes, as necessary.
  • Become familiar with standard owner databases and external support platforms.
  • Take part in face to face and online training sessions to maintain your competence and technical understanding as required.
  • Provide technical support to administration colleagues as required.
