Responsibilities:

MŌ TE TŪRANGA | ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our team to take on the pivotal role of Technical Specialist Marine Claims, where your expertise will drive unparalleled customer experiences across our intermediated brands. As the technical specialist, you will orchestrate the management of marine claims, including cargo, hull, and marine liability, exceeding team member delegations with finesse. Your responsibilities encompass setting strategic direction for high complexity or large loss claims, providing invaluable advice to claims specialists, and ensuring adherence to policy interpretation and settlement practices. Beyond technical prowess, you’ll be pivotal in maintaining quality assurance in policy responses, cultivating relationships with stakeholders, and engaging external suppliers both domestically and internationally. This is a permanent full-time opportunity with hybrid working conditions and is open to any IAG office locations in New Zealand, with a preference for Auckland.

In order to be successful in this role, you’ll ideally meet the below criteria:

  • Prior experience in marine claims.
  • Excellent knowledge of: Government Acts relating to Marine and Insurance, Institute Clauses, Incoterms, Maritime Rules and Regulations and the ability to calculate complex claim adjustments
  • Ability to manage challenging conversations and negotiate effectively.
  • Legal / claims background in an insurance environment.
  • Experience with local and international recovery work against parties liable.
  • The ability to appoint appropriate stakeholders, and understand the information required from the outset to ensure an efficient claims service and preservation of recovery rights.
  • A drive to educate our partners and peers on the complexities of Marine Insurance
