Our team of Mechanical, Industrial and Electrical Certified Professional Engineers has nearly 100 years of combined experience, and they, along with our technicians, welders and fabricators, complete our team of experts in analyzing concept generation, designing, and specifying components for complex systems and then bring them to life through our manufacturing capabilities.
The Shop / Field Technician is responsible for designing, developing and assembling complex custom railway systems and circuits to meet customer needs and requests in a shop environment. In order to best serve CERES customers, the Technician is called on to provide field support as needed. This involves inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and servicing customer machines in a field environment. As a systems expert for CERES, the Technician makes machine improvement recommendations to the design team based on feedback collected from the field.

Duties:

  • Assists design team with engineering of new hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems/circuits to meet customer needs and requests. Designs new systems/circuits to operate new and older attachments.
  • Repairs damaged or improper functioning equipment and attachments.
  • Removes, installs, repairs, disassembles, assembles, performs failure analysis of all Caterpillar Maintenance of Way equipment including engines, attachments, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, power train, brakes, steering, and electronic and computer applications.
  • Conducts necessary inspections, troubleshooting, machine performance and diagnostic tests, and interprets results to make independent decisions to repair damaged or improperly functioning equipment and attachments.
  • Troubleshoots any circuit or failure by use of computer software, hand and pneumatic tools. References CAT Service Information Systems (SIS) to locate service letters and service magazines pertaining to failures and technical issues.
  • Tests and adjusts new, used and updated products/machinery to ensure new designs, circuits and products are set to perform to fullest potential.
  • Performs work in the field, shop, or at customer locations which can include overtime and overnight assignments.
  • Repairs machines without error and consistently repairs machines within the time requirement guidelines.
