Description:
Temporary -Technician in Engineering
Campus: East London
Start Date: ASAP until the end of the academic year
Monday to Friday - Full time
£14- £16 per hour
To support the Engineering workshop and staff in technician duties.
- Monitoring and assist with servicing and maintenance of all machinery in the workshops (drills, circular saw, disc sander, laser cutter, mills, lathes, 3D printers etc.) This included changing blades or papers where required. Carry out regular maintenance and safety inspections of equipment used, arrange for servicing when required and estimate and advise staff of any ‘down time’.
- Changing of Gas Bottles
- Maintain an inventory of equipment and stock for the Engineering department. Organise stock, store rooms and store cupboards.
- Prep workshops as necessary for staff and students on engineering courses.
- Assist in loading or off loading of equipment. Collect materials or equipment when required.
- Support the teaching by supervising and personally assisting with maintenance of the workshops, equipment and materials required, with due regard to both efficiency and safety.
- Ensure that working areas are kept clean and tidy and that all necessary safety procedures are followed.
Person Requirements
- Trade Qualification (General, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred)
- Someone on the Gas Safe Register who is qualified to work on gas appliances (to comply with health and safety to change gas bottles).
- Formal health & safety training
- An effective communicator with demonstrable oral and written English at Level 2 or above
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Be highly organised, methodical and have a flexible approach to working practices
