Description:

AUT’s School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences is one of New Zealand’s largest providers Engineering education. We currently engage with approximately 3000 students and offer programmes of study from a Bachelor of Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), through to Master’s and Doctoral level post-graduate study.
The School is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Technician to join our diverse team of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Information Technology technical support specialists.
This position is ideal for someone with a basic understanding of mechanical engineering. Your primary responsibilities will be the setup and configuration of undergraduate lab equipment, along with performing basic maintenance tasks. IT expertise will be needed also, to support setup of the associated interfacing, control, and data acquisition software and drivers. Some tasks will involve working with our materials preparation and test equipment, additive manufacturing, thermofluids and mechatronics equipment.

Our ideal candidate will be:

  • Interested in growing and developing within the role over the next 4-5 years.
  • Able to use, configure, fault find, and repair specialist engineering equipment.
  • Capable of providing training on the use of lab equipment.
  • Skilled in combining off-the-shelf modular solutions with custom in-house hardware and software designs to deliver effective solutions for laboratory learning and research.
  • Understand Health & Safety in lab environments.
  • Able to support technical learning.
  • Motivated and versatile and believe you can make a difference.
  • Tertiary qualified (certificate/diploma/degree) or have appropriate industry qualification/experience.

Salary Range: $56,911 - $75,003 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
