Job description:The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in the Helmholtz Association is an international biomedical research center dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms of health and disease with the goal to devise new diagnostics and medicines. The MDC is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest scientific organization, and offers an engaging research environment with cutting-edge research infrastructure. Currently, ~1250 employees and ~500 guest scientists work at the Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Mitte campuses. Our diverse workforce is a core strength that inspires creativity and innovation at the MDC.

The Technology Transfer department provides advice and support to MDC scientists in developing their ideas into innovative technologies and products in the healthcare sector. The focus of our work is the management and exploitation of intellectual property as well as the support of scientists in founding spin-offs and collaborations with industry. Our goal is to create the best possible conditions for innovation and thus added value for the medicine of the future.

Job Description:

  • Scouting and identification of new technologies and inventions by MDC scientists
  • Evaluation of new technologies and inventions - especially in the fields of therapeutics, diagnostics and digital health - with regard to their commercial potential
  • Monitoring and coordinating applications for intellectual property rights
  • Development and support of transfer projects from the idea phase to commercialization by industrial partners or through spin-out ventures
  • Organization and implementation of MDC’s internal funding programs for transfer projects
  • Contract negotiations with external partners (MTA, cooperation and exploitation agreements)
  • Conducting workshops, seminars and events in the field of technology transferCollaboration with industrial companies, networks and subject-specific experts

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Life Sciences or related field with professional experience in innovation management at a research institution or in industry
  • An additional degree in business administration or IP law is a plus
  • Team player; client-oriented with excellent time management skills
  • Strong initiative and structured working style
  • Oral and written fluency required in German and EnglishInterest in the promotion of scientific research, contact with companies, commercial aspects related to technology transfer and intellectual property
