The Technical Assistant will be responsible for providing technical support in the maintenance, repair, and operation of machines and equipment within the Technology labs of the Business & STEM division of Niagara County Community College. The primary focus of this role is ensuring the functionality and safety of welding and machining equipment, as well as assisting students and faculty with their technical needs. The technical assistant will assist the teaching faculty in managing the Technology laboratories, preparation spaces, equipment, tools and storage spaces to ensure function and compliance with safety standards. This position will also be responsible for purchasing, inventory management, storage, chemical handling and disposal. This position requires someone to have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety protocols as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in Welding Technology, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Science or a Welding Certification
  • Two years of experience in welding or mechanical maintenance.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders.
  • Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment commonly used in welding and fabrication.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in industrial Technology, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience working in academic or training setting
  • Experience leading the training of others on welding best practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety protocols, and regulations

Must be able to operate laboratory equipment; must be able to navigate relationships with a diverse population; must be able to operate computers; must be able to speak to groups; must be able to prepare reports and documentation required in performance of duties; must be able to physically perform the duties of the position; must be able to relate to senior members of the department and administration. This person must also be able to lift 45 lbs.
