Description:

At the Alberta Cancer Foundation, we exist to create more moments for Albertans facing cancer by inspiring Albertans to give to innovation in cancer research, detection, treatment and care. But, we can’t do it alone. It is the collective actions of our team - alongside our volunteers, partners and donors - that play a pivotal role in improving the cancer journeys and outcomes for the 23,000 Albertans who will face a cancer diagnosis this year.
Thanks to funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Program, we are looking for a Temporary, Full-Time Community Relations (CR) Assistant. Reporting to the Development Officer, Community Relations in Calgary, the CR Assistant is responsible for supporting the growth of our exciting signature, partnership and community initiatives and events through building relationships, cultivating new opportunities, enhanced stewardship and community engagement as an ambassador for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • As the Government of Canada has funded this job through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, applicants must be between the ages of 15-30 and legally entitled to work in Canada. This includes Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred. International students are not eligible.
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline including Business, Marketing, Hospitality, Communications, and/or combination of education, experience and training acceptable to the Foundation.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant work experience, volunteer management is considered an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Clear Background Check

Responsibilities:

A TYPICAL DAY FOR YOU IN THIS ROLE MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Acting as a liaison and supporting various signature, partnership and community initiatives and events through our the summer months
  • Leading in direct solicitation of donors and sponsors; supporting volunteers in their fundraising activities on behalf of the Foundation
  • Providing meaningful and timely stewardship to donors and sponsors including tours, hosting meetings and distribution of progress reports to donors
  • Data entry to ensure Community Relations donor records are up to date and accurate in our database, Raiser’s Edge
  • Handling event proceeds in accordance with Foundation Cash Handling and Reconciliation policies and procedures
  • Providing administrative support by drafting correspondence, preparing reports, presentations and updating spreadsheets
