WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED – MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications include an earned undergraduate and PhD degrees in mechanical or a cognate area, with the proven ability for excellence in both teaching and research in the areas relevant to the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Those with industry experience and/or prior teaching experience are preferred. A strong record of research and publications is desired.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor in the general area of mechanical engineering, particularly, smart materials, nano- micro materials, or additive manufacturing. Applicants should clearly indicate which position they are applying for. Duties will include teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, developing laboratory facilities, supervising graduate and undergraduate student research, and undertaking an active, funded research program. The successful candidate is expected to develop a high impact research program in one of the modern mechanical engineering areas, stated above. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience relevant for the advertised position.

WHAT YOU’LL DO – POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Lamar’s undergraduate mechanical engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org/. The department has approximately 380 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. The department offers both Bachelor and Master of Science in Engineering degrees as well as Doctor of Engineering degrees. Lamar University, located in Beaumont, TX, is a public university and part of the Texas State University System. The university has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, with enrollment steadily increasing to more than 17,000. The metropolitan Beaumont area is located 85 miles east of Houston and has a population of 120,000. The strong local oil and gas industry serves as the primary economic engine of the region and has a global impact.
