DESCRIPTION

The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning Fall 2024. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Assistant Professor in Climate Smart Agricultural Water Management, with a specific focus on Irrigation Engineering. The breakdown of effort for this position is 45% Research, 45% Teaching and 10% Service.
The successful candidate will establish an integrated teaching and research program of international recognition focused on one or more of (but not limited to) the following areas: design and development of novel irrigation technologies/strategies for enhanced efficiencies; climate-smart agriculture, including development of mitigation and adaptation water management strategies; impact of agricultural water management on nutrient and contaminant fate and transport; and utilization of alternative water sources in agriculture, such as treated wastewater, grey water, sustainable reservoir management.
The candidate will leverage cutting-edge, data-driven approaches and technologies, including applications of artificial intelligence (AI) to agricultural water management. Additionally, the candidate will direct graduate research, establish a strong publication record, and attract competitive extramural funding. Teaching responsibilities will include Irrigation Engineering and additional courses on subject matter appropriate to the individual’s expertise in the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition, the incumbent will advise both undergraduate and graduate students. Collaboration with AgriLife Extension Faculty, participation in professional development activities and an appropriate level of service to the department, institution, and/or profession is expected
