Bewerbungsfrist: 16.05.2024
We are looking for a highly qualified scientist with enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research and a commitment to teaching to establish a new research group in the field of pediatric oncology and immunology. The ideal candidate is expected to integrate recent advances in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, and metabolomics to uncover key factors that influence metabolic reprogramming of pediatric tumors, identify novel metabolism-associated therapeutic target antigens, and design and implement T cell-based targeted therapies and determinants of therapeutic response. The candidate will hold a dual affiliation at the Division of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology, Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and at the Division of Immunology at the Otto Loewi Research Center. The initial appointment is limited to six years. After the conclusion of a qualification agreement, the career advancement goal is to transfer to a tenured position as an associate professor (tenure track professor pursuant to § 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Universities Act). If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, the qualification agreement may be fulfilled more quickly.

Ihre Aufgaben in dieser Position beinhalten:

  • Internationally competitive and innovative research to advance our understanding of the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence metabolic reprogramming of pediatric tumors and their impact on T-cell immunogenicity with the goal of developing novel T cell-based cellular therapy strategies against cancer
  • Establishment and management of a working group in the field of pediatric oncology and immunology
  • Independent realization of third-party funded projects focusing on molecular immunology and oncology
  • Authoring of publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals
  • Collaborative research in the specified areas of research
  • Teaching activities in immunology, biochemistry, and molecular cell biology
  • Administrative activities within the university
  • Supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and MD/PhD students
  • Knowledge transfer and support of young researchers as part of the Medical University of Graz’s commitment to social responsibility

Für diese Position bringen Sie folgende Qualifikationen und Kenntnisse mit:

  • PhD or MD/PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in molecular biology/biochemistry or a related field
  • Expertise in T lymphocyte biology, antigen and tumor cell recognition, tumor cell metabolism, and OMICs data analysis documented by an outstanding publication record in line with the career level
  • International recognition in the respective research area (pediatric immunology, oncology, T lymphocyte biology)
  • Successful and continuous acquisition of peer-reviewed third-party funding
  • Existing national and international research collaborations
  • Experience in teaching and supervision of postgraduates
  • International working experience (postdoctoral research fellowship of at least 12 months abroad or at a different institution than where the PhD was completed)
  • High level of proficiency in both written and spoken English (equivalent to proficiency level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and strong willingness to learn German within 2 years

Idealerweise zählen zu Ihrem Profil:

  • Experience with computational data analysis in the life sciences
  • Documented expertise in developing and applying innovative approaches in molecular cell biology with a focus on unconventional T cells
  • Openness to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary joint working in translational teams
  • Excellent communication skills
