Description:

SUMMARY

The responsibility of the Terminal Operator is the hands-on operation of unloading cement and loading it into bulk trucks with the terminal equipment and following daily operating functions of the terminal as directed by Terminal Management. Supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour shift, up to 7 days per week. Overtime and holidays as necessary; ability to work alone without immediate supervision.
  • Ability to safely operate, read and comprehend safety and operating instructions.
  • Ability to bend, use a broom, shovel, spade, work at heights up to 200 feet.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat and cold, in enclosed areas, such as barges, dust collectors and pump pits.
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions, to operate forklifts and tractors for cutting grass.
  • Basic ability to use Microsoft word, outlook and excel.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
  • Must have a high level of integrity and commitment to comply with all applicable federal / state / industry compliance, record keeping, regulations and standards.
  • Interpersonal capabilities with the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members
  • Due to the nature of this position, it is essential that the teammate be available to report to the designated work site / office and be ready to begin work when scheduled,
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.

Occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) lbs. independently and tolerate moderate noise levels.

Responsibilities:

  • The Terminal Operator will be responsible for the unloading of barges and loading bulk trucks in a safe, efficient, and timely manner from the designated silos. The Terminal Operator will also ensure that each load is completed to the customer’s specification within legal limits, performing quality checks and providing excellent service to customers, processing bill of ladings, verifying accuracy of paperwork, interprets and understands readings on equipment instrumentation panels.
  • Participates in formal and informal training programs to broaden both technical and soft skills, cross trains in activities, and participates in a team environment.
  • Responsible for safe, proper use and operation of loading and unloading equipment (Front-end loader, compressors, vibrators, blowers, pumps, man lifts, railcar mover, air valves, pneumatic door opener, boot lifts, hoisting equipment, pneumatic barge unloading, etc.)
  • Performs routine maintenance on pumps, compressors, valves, and actuators, preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Perform work in a safe manner and be dedicated to open communication to continuously improve Continental’s operations with a goal of ZERO Lost Time Accidents, Medical and First Aid Incidents.
  • Clean all areas of the terminal grounds and obtain daily/weekly cement samples.
  • Assist at other Continental Cement locations as required, assist in the training of new hires, generate reports, remain compliant with internal control procedures, communicating deviations from established standards.
  • Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.
