We are looking for a talented Engineer, I who is responsible for validating client components and systems through testing. As the main point of contact with the customer, you will organize and execute customer jobs. These will include special vehicle tests, durability, NVH, performance, fleet tests, extreme environment conditions, etc. The Test Engineer, I (Vehicle) will also support certification, regulation interpretation, process improvement, in-use compliance, industry benchmarking, etc. manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related Associates degree with 4 years relevant work experience in an automotive engineering laboratory; equivalent related work experience also acceptable in lieu of education

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience being highly motivated and self-directed
  • Familiarity with model 4000 modules (analog, temp, pulse, NVH) preferred
  • Understanding of vehicle braking systems including caliper design, friction types, and friction classification preferred
  • Understanding of load configuration including center of gravity, GAWR’s, GCVM (w/trailer) preferred
  • Basic understanding of vehicle dynamics and brake systems preferred
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Epicor preferred)
  • Writing technical reports, SOPs, ISO quality documents preferred
  • Experience with standardized Quality Systems (ISO-9001 / 17025, MIL I/Q) preferred
  • Proven knowledge of Test Engineering (methods, equipment, reporting, analysis, designing experiments, etc.)
  • Ability to lead projects, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Basic understanding of project management fundamentals, e.g., work plans, schedules, resource plans, and status reports
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong independent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work after normal hours occasionally as needed
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to use a computer

Physical Requirements:

  • The position is located in a mixed office and test laboratory environment and will involve hands-on work. Physical activity may include lifting (up to 50lbs.), bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity or sitting for long periods of time

Responsibilities:

  • Technical responsibility for organizing, executing, and coordinating customer jobs according to project timing, scope, and budget
  • Read and understand test specifications for vehicle testing projects
  • Monitor tests in progress to ensure they are running to specification
  • Analyze test results and provide engineering reports that meet customer specifications
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external customers with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the test engineering field
  • Perform customer-related activities that will promote new jobs and repeat customers
  • Basic equipment instrumentation including set up and calibration of channels
  • Basic-level system/vehicle troubleshooting
  • Create build sheet and books using templates
  • Use a Windows based computer system to access relevant test procedures and quality system documents, enter measurement data, store, and retrieve files from the network, etc
  • Interaction with Customer to obtain test objectives, testing parameters, & provide test results
  • Working with the staff to ensure quality testing
  • Communicate Customer alignment to evaluate the appropriate course of action
  • Communicate project needs to maintain organization and privacy of customer parts
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe manner using all available safety equipment.
