There are 27 modern, state-of- the- art theatres across 2 floors and 2 additional theatres that are located within the Maternity unit which undertake elective, emergency and trauma work for Adults, Paediatrics & Obstetric patient groups.
Staff are expected to upskill and rotate between 2 areas. In addition to this, Anaesthetic, Recovery & Scrub staff provide support to Maternity Theatres, Interventional Radiology, MRI & Gastro remote services. The Service provides 24/7 cover and can offer a variety of shift patterns.
In more recent times, Theatre staff have rotated into Critical Care and there are also opportunities to develop skills in this area as part of ongoing development programme to build a more flexible workforce.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US

We aim to develop staff once established within their primary clinical area, by facilitating rotational positions into at least 2 areas of Operating Department Practice (Recovery, Scrub and Anaesthetics). Opportunities may also be available to rotate into Critical Care for those who want to expand their skillset further. We are always keen to recognise talent and offer the opportunity to advance in different specialties by encouraging rotation and the acquisition of new skills. We encourage our staff to undertake Leadership and Management courses and empower them to develop leadership skills as well as essential clinical-decision making skills to progress within the perioperative environment.
PHU NHS Trust are an innovative organisation, and are the first trust in the South East region to introduce the Anaesthetic Associate role. This is an exciting opportunity that will transform our anaesthetic service. This will be an ongoing development opportunity for operating department practitioners and nurses wanting to develop into advanced roles in the future.
You will be supported by an enthusiastic team of staff to help you develop skills in caring for patients across a range of specialties. You will be given the opportunity to undertake a competency based training package and will be supported via the allocation of a suitable mentor and/or buddy system. We also have a number of dedicated Educational/Training mornings identified throughout the year and an excellent IT facility to support with on-line training.
