Description:

We are looking to recruit a passionate, dynamic and motivated practitioner, to join our friendly team as an recovery Band 6 Team Leader.
This will be an post anaesthetic specialist based role, but multi skilled Operating Department Practitioners/Registered Nurses are also encouraged to apply. Our specialities include Gynae, Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, Urology, Vascular and Ophthalmology across 8 theatres. Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) is predominantly an elective site, however we offer out of hours emergency cover for urology, including urology and ophthalmology paediatric patients.
In applying for this position, candidates should demonstrate effective leadership skills, ability to efficiently manage all recovery units and consider patient safety as a priority. The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards of practice with excellent communication, clinical and decision making skills. They will be required to deputise for senior staff in their absence and take it in turn to floor co-ordinate with the other Band 6s. They will ensure Clinical Governance by driving audits, training, risk management and staff management to sustain and improve high standards of patient care.
The applicant should have appropriate post-registration experience.
Enhanced IT skills are desirable to enable applicant to use digital systems in place with the department.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • Registered Nurse/ODP with the Nursing and Midwifery Council/HCPC
  • Evidence of post registration qualification/equivalent
  • Appropriate experience post-registration
  • Appropriate teaching/assessing qualification is desirable
  • Developed/Enhanced IT skills are desirable.

Leadership and management

  • Act as a role model and resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the organisation and theatre team.
  • Deputise in absence of Band 7 including floor co-ordination and escalation of issues.
  • Support line manager for clinical area in the management of budgetary control and resource management including duty rotas and skill mix requirements.
  • Exercise professional accountability and recognise the implications of decisions taken

Education and training

  • To participate in own and teams personal and professional development.
  • Ensuring progression through Individual Performance Development reviews.
  • Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students and other members of the team.

Improving quality and developing practice

  • Demonstrate an understanding and implementation of research and evidence-based practice
  • Develop, participate in and delegate audits as required.
  • To support line manager in recruitment, retention and performance related issues, including being regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship for unqualified/qualified staff and students.
  • To support line manager with Clinical Governance by driving audits, training, risk management and staff management
  • To assist in the management of effective change and development within the clinical area.

Physical, Mental & Emotional Effort & Working Conditions

  • To lead and deliver safe care within a challenging and ever-changing clinical environment.
  • Will be required to work within recognised Manual Handling Guidelines.
  • Able to recognise and manage effectively stress in self and others and be emotionally resilient.
  • Will have frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions and will be required to follow Policies and Procedures pertaining to infestations, bodily fluids, infection control and COSHH regulations.
  • Ability to work where the work pattern may be unpredictable, but there is also frequent exposure to distressing situations involving patients, relatives and staff.
  • Will be required to participate in evenings, weekend and on-call rotas with a flexible working pattern.
  • Potential for cross-site working.
