Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered nurses and operating department professionals (ODPs) to join our team as an anaesthetic practitioner in Theatres & Anaesthesia Division.
The role offers the opportunity to work in a highly specialised Main Theatres of University College Hospital. We have a range of specialties including General surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and upper GI surgery, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Vascular and Plastic/ Breast surgery and Robotic Surgery.
Our long-term goal is to develop a multi-skilled workforce through a post graduate certificate programme developed in collaboration with University College London Perioperative Medicine Faculty.
You must be motivated and enthusiastic with a passion for high quality patient care, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Working as an Anaesthetic Practitioner you will be required to function effectively as a member of the peri-operative team to ensure the provision of an efficient and high-quality anaesthesia service.
Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment, as well as promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC.
As an Anaesthetic Practitioner you must have a good knowledge and experience in perioperative practice and an excellent understanding of peri-anaesthesia nursing care. To practice the role, you must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) OR a NMC registered Nurse (with appropriate and accredited post-graduate anaesthetic module/course).
As an anaesthetic practitioner, you will be responsible for helping and offering support for patients undergoing surgery. You will support the team to prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous equipment and devices that safely secure the patient’s airway during anaesthesia.
As a member of the multidisciplinary theatre team, you will have continuing responsibility for supporting your colleagues in the day to day management of the unit, ensuring a safe delivery of care and smooth patient flow.
You will devise, implement and assess individualised care plans for a wide and diverse patient group, and promoting best evidence-based practice.
In the absence of the Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner you will expected to supervise junior colleagues and unqualified members of our team staff ensuring that all staff is able to provide the highest standard of care.
Our operating theatre is a busy and dynamic environment setting the benchmark for clinical excellence.
We have 27 operating rooms under UCH Theatres & Anesthesia Division which covers different specialties ranging from General surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and upper GI surgery, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Vascular and Plastic/ Breast surgery and Robotic Surgery. In addition, we also provide anaesthesia support in outlying areas such as endoscopy unit, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, brachytherapy and interventional radiology.
Our new operating theatre complex in Grafton Way Building is now open which caters to elective orthopaedic and ENT and oral surgeries. Further career opportunities will be available with our new Proton Beam Therapy centre .
We are committed to ongoing professional development and opportunities exist to undertake a wide range of in-house and university based training programme.
Opportunities are available to rotate in all areas within the Division areas such as Main Theatres, Day Surgery Unit, Macmillan Cancer Centre, Grafton Way Building and EGA Obstetric Theatres with the support of a dedicated Senior Clinical Practice Facilitator.
The successful candidate will hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered practitioner (RGN or ODP) and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
To work according to the Nursing & Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse (or key worker) for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for: Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients
To deliver care to patients during the perioperative period.
To provide support to the Senior Practitioners in managing the unit and to support the development plan of staff and learners whilst ensuring the delivery of safe and high quality care
Development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient
To promote and maintain effective communication.
Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients acting as their advocate when necessary within the multi-disciplinary team.
To take charge of the operating theatre in the absence of Senior Theatre Practitioner following performance review against the agreed KSF outline and progression through the first gateway
To promote and participate in the implementation of the UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and work towards achieving the Trust “Top 10”
Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
Support the development and implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives
