Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered nurses and operating department professionals (ODPs) to work at UCH Main Theatres.
The role offers the opportunity to work in a range of specialties including General surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and upper GI surgery, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Vascular and Plastic/ Breast surgery and Robotic Surgery.
We also offer our scrub practitioners the opportunity to gain qualification through specialism in Anaesthesia through a post graduate certificate programme developed in collaboration with University College London Perioperative Medicine Faculty.
As a rotational practitioner, following a successful completion of your probationary period you will undertake a six-month multi-professional Preceptorship programme in various specialities. This will be supported by our lead practitioners and by experienced clinical practice facilitators. We will provide guidance, support and feedback throughout your transition period, while you develop the necessary knowledge and skills to become a confident and competent practitioner.
You must be motivated and enthusiastic with a passion for high quality patient care, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Ensure a welcoming, caring, and safe environment, as well as promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC
As a theatre practitioner, you will be responsible for helping and offering support for patients undergoing surgery. You will support the team to prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and other medical devices required during surgery.
You will also be responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care with support and supervision, and expected to supervise junior colleagues and unqualified members of our team staff ensuring that all staff
are able to provide the highest standard of care..
In the absence of the Senior Theatre Practitioner you will have continuing responsibility for the management of the assigned operating theatre, ensuring that the operating list runs smoothly.
You will devise, implement and assess individualised care plans for a wide and diverse patient group, and promoting best evidence-based practice.

IN ADDITION YOU MUST HAVE:

Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) OR a NMC registered Nurse (with appropriate and accredited post-graduate anaesthetic module/course)
Eligibility to work in the UK
Knowledge of patient care / needs in the perioperative environment
Evidence of leading a team within a clinical environment
Proven experience of managing change within a clinical setting
A recognised mentor qualification and experience of supporting learners would be dvantageous
We have 27 operating rooms under UCH Theatres & Anesthesia Division which covers different specialties ranging from General surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and upper GI surgery, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Vascular and Plastic/ Breast surgery and Robotic Surgery. In addition, we also provide anaesthesia support in outlying areas such as endoscopy unit, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, brachytherapy and interventional radiology.
Our new operating theatre complex in Grafton Way Building is now open which caters to elective orthopaedic and ENT and oral surgeries. Further career opportunities will be available with the opening of our Proton Beam Therapy centre.
We are committed to ongoing professional development and opportunities exist to undertake a wide range of in-house and university based training programme.
Opportunities are available to rotate in all areas within the Division areas such as Main Theatres, Day Surgery Unit, Macmillan Cancer Centre, Grafton Way Building and EGA Obstetric Theatres with the support of a dedicated Senior Clinical Practice Facilitator.
The successful candidate will hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered practitioner (RGN or ODP) and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development
