ABOUT THE SAP INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE PROGRAM:

The SAP Internship Experience Program is SAP’s global, strategic, paid internship program that provides university students with opportunities to find purpose in their careers.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are a student (f/m/d) at a university or a university of applied sciences. We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, perseveres, and stays curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning.

  • Preferred fields of study:
  • Methodical work; especially in relation to expert interviews
  • Process-Analysis
  • Information Technology
  • Computer skills:
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP); Chat-Bot; Large Language Models
  • IT Design and IT Architecture (technical & functional)
  • Language skills:
  • German – fluent
  • English – fluent

The aim of this work is to lay the foundations for the development of an AI-based prototype. In order to create a solid foundation for later programming, we assume that we need to interview five clients from different industries about their approach to determining the appropriate eligible screening-scope. We currently assume that the target solution will function in the same way as a robo-advisor. In other words, we assume that the determination of the eligible scope will be a semi-automated process. All interviews will be accompanied by EY (Ernst & Young), who will take on the perspective of an auditor.
As we better understand customers’ target processes, we believe we will be able to identify the data sources necessary to determine the appropriate eligible-screening scope. These sources are also interesting because the goal of the AI prototype (robo-advisor) is to use these sources for the partially automated process already mentioned.
Since the derivation of design principles is initially a theoretical exercise, we expect a student who is interested in developing and conducting standardized interviews, supported by technical solutions such as MaxQDA for storing and evaluating the standardized interviews. Since this is an innovation topic related to artificial intelligence, technical knowledge of AI is also important for conducting the interviews and subsequently deriving the IT design principles.
We therefore want to carry out a master’s thesis with the aim of analyzing existing customer processes and the data sources used, then evaluating the database to be able to derive the IT design principles. The thesis then concludes with a first IT prototype, presented as a mock-up solution.
It is intended to then publish the master’s thesis in a scientific journal together with the master student. The publication has no influence on the grades.

Visit our Careers Page for more information on the program.
Your set of application documents should contain a cover letter, a resume in table form, school leaving certificates, certificate of enrollment, current university transcript of records, copies of any academic degrees already earned, and if available, references from former employers (including internships). Please also describe your experience and skills in foreign languages and computer programs / programming languages.
Note for Germany: currently the SAP Internship Experience Program is only open to interns and being hired into other contract types such as working students will preclude the candidate’s participation in the program.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL:

The EU Commission has set itself the goal of making Europe the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050 at the latest. To achieve this ambitious goal, EU policy is considering redirecting financial investments into sustainable real investments in the real economy. To distinguish between activities in the real economy that support climate neutrality and those that do not, a framework known as the EU Taxonomy has been created. Starting in 2025, approximately 50,000 companies in Europe will be required to report in their annual report the proportion of Taxonomy-compliant activities compared to non-compliant activities and the associated CAPEX, OPEX, and revenues. A steady increase in the Taxonomy-compliant shares of CAPEX, OPEX and revenue will then show a company roadmap that contributes positively to the climate target. Since the EU Taxonomy is a reward model, democratic principles must be established to make the idea of redirecting a success and to initiate a fair transition to climate neutrality. Current experience shows that the biggest obstacle to democratizing the reward system is determining the so-called eligible Taxonomy-screening-scope within a company. Determining this scope within an organization is a mandatory requirement for the second step, which determines the extent to which the “eligible scope” meets the limits of the EU-Taxonomy. The Taxonomy refers to this process as “alignment screening”. The Taxonomy evaluation of a company can be described as a Taxonomy inventory along the threshold values, specified in the Taxonomy Regulation. Carrying out this Taxonomy inventory requires an enormous amount of manual effort, as all business activities of a company are subject to dynamically evolving Taxonomy regulations. Currently, only companies willing to spend money on manual assessment or companies with a homogeneous business model that fits the Taxonomy’s activities can meet the EU Commission’s expectations. Without the support of AI and large language models, the greenwashing of the past becomes distorted competition that favors large companies with a homogeneous business model.
The aim of the thesis is to prepare and conduct expert interviews with five selected SAP customers in order to derive design principles for an AI-based prototype from the customer’s specific requirements.
