Description:
Provide individualised smoking cessation support to women and families in a flexible and innovative way.
This will be done throughout pregnancy and the post-natal period, using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring, behavioural support and Nicotine Replacement therapy. You will work with the specialist midwife in the encouragement of high referral rates and risk perception of those who opt out of smoking cessation support and educate pregnant women/people and their families about the benefits of stopping smoking in pregnancy and give support to those wanting to quit. Alongside this you will promote smoke free homes and support and advise women and families about passive smoking. Prioritisation and organisation of your workload according to the needs of the service will be key and it is essential that you ensure equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work.
- Provide individualised smoking cessation support to women throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period. Give advice on Nicotine replacement therapy/vaping. This may include maintaining a relationship with sometimes difficult or reluctant to engage clients.
- Educate pregnant women and their families about the benefits of stopping smoking in pregnancy and promote smoke free homes; advising women and families about passive smoking, working within recommended protocols and guidelines.
- Respond to referrals promptly and maintain comprehensive contemporaneous notes whilst supporting the delivery of the service to maintain key performance indicators for tobacco dependency.
- Maintain appointment diaries, clinical records and outcome data. Plan own workload within role boundaries and under the management and guidance of the Lead Midwife for Smoking in Pregnancy to meet the needs of individuals within the service.
- Work collaboratively with local stop smoking services and maternity staff to support whole families to quit smoking and improve health literacy with regards to public health topics. This may involve individual, telephonic, online and group work sessions whilst providing individualised care following the maternity TDT pathway.
Travel between hospital and community bases is expected and the individual will be expected to drive to visit patients at home and in community hubs, as well as between the hospital sites.
A wide range of staff benefits are available to our staff including staff development, enrolment in the NHS pension scheme, auto-enrolment to our Temporary Workforce Service, access to nurseries at EDGH and Conquest, staff restaurants and on-site staff accommodation.
