Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Manager of Tool and Die handles manufacturing operations and supervises personnel to achieve optimal production efficiency and effectiveness, quality and on-time delivery in support of the overall goals, objectives, mission and vision of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High level of technical skill and ability to support guidance, mentoring and support of tool and die makers.
  • Experience in formal problem-solving and processes (i.e. Six Sigma, LEAN, Kaizen).
  • High technical proficiency including expertise in Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Journeyman/Apprenticeship experience
  • 5+ experience as a Tool & Die Maker/Machinist
  • 10+ experience in a management role
  • Industrial degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressive tool and die leadership experience preferably in Automotive

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in hiring and lead the training and development of Tool and Die staff. Encourage, foster and enable highly effective problem-solving among staff.
  • Manage day to day work activity such as changeovers, PM schedule, and repairs. Work with scheduling and crew supervisors for prioritization of projects.
  • Drive and maintain safety standards while being an active participant on the safety team.
  • Support tooling preventive maintenance program.
  • Create and maintain a Tooling reference tag required for each tool.
  • Create and maintain standardization of mold setup and teardown procedures. Apply learned best practices.
  • Participate in the setup, testing, procedures, training, and updating of IQMS relative to tooling and operations.
  • Provide focus, guidance and leadership in scrap reduction and uptime initiatives.
  • Lead production support of and identify improvements with molding tools and processes in order to reduce or eliminate reoccurring problems and collaborate with Operations and Manufacturing Engineering on priority of activities related to those issues.
  • Teach, mentor, train, and provide guidance to tool and die makers equally across all shifts.
  • Liaise between technicians, tool room maintenance teams and Engineering to ensure efficient and effective problem resolution and to ascertain continuity of application.
  • Actively participate in mold design reviews. Conduct and lead tool teardown meetings.
  • Document, standardize and create procedures for repeatability, predictability and improved efficiency specific to related activities.
  • Maintain and create inventory system for MRO (maintenance repair) to ensure tools can be quickly repaired.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement philosophy, keep abreast of leading edge technology and methods to ensure best practices and processes.
  • Participate in morning production meetings to facilitate problem solving on day to day issues.
  • Participate in the formation of actionable, value added solutions through suggestions and feedback to appropriate staff. Identify and communicate ideas that support best practices in product development and enhancements.
  • Maintain positive employee relations and adhere to Company policies and safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
