BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Experience in fabrication tooling, working with tooling and tooling processes, or working in a tooling technical field.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Use shop math, geometry and/or trigonometry to calculate dimensions to fabricate details, as required.
  • Experience using handheld power tools.
  • Experience reading and interpreting assembly instructions or drawings.
  • Experience in any of the following hand operated and floor mounted power tools: Grinders, Cut Off Tools, Disc Sanders, Drill motors, Band Saw, Drill Press, Punching Machines.
  • Capable of working any shift

TYPICAL EDUCATION:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, sequence, and layout own work operations in the fabrication, assembly, repair, rework, routine and maintenance of all tool types and materials, including prototype and/or automated tool control systems.
  • Provide Tooling support to manufacturing as required, including: Production Assist, Tooling Assist and Ship Side support.
  • Use and interpret tool and engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, production parts, computing systems, verbal and/or written instructions to accomplish assignment.
  • Use all types of power and non-power equipment, both hand-held and floor mounted to accomplish work assignments or operations.
  • Processes include: cutting, grinding, spotting, hand finish, shaping, bending, deburring, drilling, model layout, reaming, tapping, wiring, lay-up, plumbing, pneumatics, and weld preparation using documented processes and procedures.
  • Use any and all required precision measuring instruments and methods necessary to complete and check own work assignment.
  • Utilize and/or interpret 3D measurement and analysis systems and software; such as Laser Trackers, Photogrammetry, Laser Radar, etc. and conventional optics.
  • Identify and select appropriate equipment, tools and materials used in the fabrication, maintenance and rework of tools.
  • Ensure tools and parts meet engineering requirements, specifications and tolerances for dimension, shape, contour, location and coordination.
  • Report discrepancies in design or fabrication and initiate corrections as required.
  • Coordinate, communicate and work with customers, suppliers and associates regarding job tasks including: shift-to-shift written/verbal tie-ins, documenting and maintaining adequate records.
  • Use eye, hearing, foot, hand, respirator and other personal protective equipment as required.
  • Requires lifting, pushing, pulling up to 35 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, handling, grasping and turning/twisting.
  • Climbing stairs and working from ladders/lifts as required.
  • Occasional use of low impacts tools, stooping, kneeling, crouching and squatting.
  • Exposure to noise and moving parts.
  • Exposure to aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, exotic alloys, plastics, tungsten carbide, cobalt, sawdust, composites, milled fiber, fiberglass and other airborne contaminants.
  • Exposure to solvents, resins, lubricants, cutting coolants and fluids.
  • Read MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and blueprints or sketches, and 3D models as required, to determine what has to be done and what types of tools and equipment will be required.
  • Obtain assignment CSR (CAMS Service Request) as required by engineering.
  • Perform Standing Tool Order (STO) (e.g., Production Action Request, SAT - ShipSide Action Tracker, IP - Installation Plan) by repairing or replacing non-key features on tools (e.g., missing pins, bolts) or other minor items.
  • Provide tooling assistance to layout holes and/or locate production parts, when tooling is not available to production shop.
  • Install/remove tooling parts from airplane sections or components, to install or remove airplane assemblies from floor mounted assembly tools, as required.
  • Assist overhead crane crew to move airplane sections from one location to another. Install lifting fixtures, as required.
  • Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., tiger, snorkel lifts, electric stacker, scissor lifts, gantry crane and jacks) to move, lift or transport heavy tools or equipment and to access work area, as required.
  • Build wooden tool storage and shipping containers and temporary tooling fixtures, to support aircraft assemblies, using power saws and pneumatic tools (e.g., stapler, nail gun, impact wrench).
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., lubricants, paints, epoxies, adhesives, solvents) in approved manner per Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Boeing requirements, using personal protective equipment, as required.
  • Maintain personal, training and tool certifications, as required.
  • When performing Production Assist jobs, follow and buy off the correct guiding IP (installation plan) in CMES or Velocity.
