Description:
Qualifications
- Must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Must have 5 years of tool design experience
- Proficiency in CAD software
- Experience in completing part and tool design feasibility
- Good understanding of reading a 2-D drawing and GD&T
- Strong communication skills
- Proficiency in MS office applications, including Project and PowerPoint.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities to isolate tooling, process, part variables to eliminate process
related scrap.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following. Other duties may be assigned.)
1. Conceive and develop new mold designs for prototype and production manufacturing.
2. Lead & work with mold builders to develop a robust production mold at competitive cost.
3. Develop and rate tooling suppliers for quality, delivery, competitive pricing and location.
4. Member of the APQP team (cross functional group that addresses any quality or manufacturing
concerns/needs before production starts) with responsibilities including managing suppliers for
the design, manufacture and validation of molds for new programs.
5. Provide accurate estimate on mold and part molding costs - cycle time, weight, scrap, etc.
6. Lead MFG plant QA’s & mold shops/suppliers on trial-shot sampling parts measurements
(inspection fixture/ functional gage’s design/review/build, rational datum/CMM-coordinate
that comply with drawings GD&T requirements) and determine tune-in
allowance/direction/iterations to achieve process capability on critical characteristics/features.
7. Continuous Improvement of existing molding programs to increase profitability, reduce scrap,
reduce waste, and downtime reduction.
8. Work with internal and external resources to resolve product or production issues.
9. Generate 3D Cad models of piece parts, mold components and other necessary tooling.
10. Develop part shrinkage models and drawings to establish mold steel geometry.
11. Explore/introduce advanced molding technologies (conformal cooling, in-mold
decoration/labeling) to sustain WP-US competitive advantage.
12. Attend all tooling trials, internal and external. Willingness for international/domestic travels if
necessary. Assist during the start-up of new production tooling.

14. Perform necessary follow-up measures with plants to ensure their satisfaction.
15. Create and manage open tooling issues
16. Populate and maintain tooling folders
17. Manage MSR’s
18. Lead tool design review meetings, which include a cross functional team of Processing, Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering.
19. Maintain proper tool design standards
20. Responsible for developing all RFQ’s for new mold quotes and EC changes
21. Manage all tool repairs (internal and vendor sourced)
22. Collaborate with Automation Engineers on robotics and any automation equipment needed to support production
23. Supervise Tool Room employees
24. Maintain data management systems
25. Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manage
