Job Purpose
The Trade Compliance Legal Counsel serves as a key partner to the business and legal team globally in ensuring that we maintain the highest ethical standards while helping to support innovation and success across the company. This person provides legal advice relating to Trade Compliance, with a focus on global Sanctions and Export Controls. As a member of TechnipFMC’s Trade Compliance team, this person would have great opportunities to work with our business and operations teams globally, and to assist with developing and maintaining a best-in-class Trade Compliance program. Job Description

  • Manage and address Trade Compliance matters involving global sanctions requirements, export controls, customs and import requirements, and anti-boycott issues.
  • Partner with the business units globally with respect to Trade Compliance “due diligence” reviews, including review of new tenders and contracts, and coordination with project members to collect necessary information to ensure that EU, UK, Norway, and other sanctions and export controls requirements are addressed.
  • Conduct due diligence on new business partners (suppliers, subcontractors, vendors, clients, commercial intermediaries, etc.), including Restricted Party Screenings against U.S. and global sanctions lists and detailed reviews of corporate structures and ultimate ownership of companies, to confirm that business partners are not directly or indirectly subject to targeted sanctions.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed to ensure compliance with global trade laws.
  • Provide trainings to Business Development and Project teams relating to the due diligence process, targeted sanctions, and export controls requirements.
  • Work with Product Classification and Licensing team to coordinate export control reviews and licensing requirements for international projects and global sales and procurement activities.
  • Recommend and implement updates to internal Trade Compliance policies, processes, and guidance materials for the business globally.

You are meant for this job if:

  • European, UK, Norwegian law degree, or equivalent legal degree from other relevant country.
  • Proven legal experience in global trade compliance, with a preference for specific experience in sanctions and export controls matters.
  • In-house work experience (in Legal, Compliance, Logistics or other relevant Departments) preferred.
  • Knowledge of global sanctions involving Russia, China, and other targeted entities and countries, including the differing requirements relating to the EU Consolidated List of Sanctions, U.S. Specially Designated Nationals (“SDN”) list, Sectoral Sanctions Identification Lists (“SSI”), U.S. Entity List, Military End User list, Annex II / Schedule B restrictions, etc. (Knowledge of US principles is a plus, but not required.)
  • Knowledge of “dual use” export controls administered by the EU, UK and/or Norwegian regulatory authorities, including the need for export licensing for certain products, collection of End User Declarations, etc.
  • Ability to work independently under general guidance and/or with self-initiative.
  • Demonstrates effective management skills, leadership, and motivation in a dynamic business environment.
  • Demonstrates exceptional planning, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • PC skills with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, project, and presentation software.

Hybrid schedule (in-office / remote work), based on office location. Some international travel, as necessary visiting TFMC regional offices or locations for purposes of executing the Legal Operations and Compliance workload and strategy.
