SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 6-8 years of experience in a commodity trading environment
  • Exposure management or Middle Office experience, with some experience in mentoring junior team members.
  • Tertiary qualification in business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics or engineering
  • Excellent understanding of exposure and P&L of physical oil and paper trading. For physical trades, how key contractual terms, operational changes and costs impact exposure and P&L.
  • Self-starter with a drive for results and able to work independently, with the ability to work with systems and troubleshoot issues, with good spreadsheet skills.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail with strong numeracy and problem-solving skills, with excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Able to influence change, effectively collaborate and communicate with other teams to resolve issues in a timely manner and a keen interest in understanding trading strategies and value drivers for the trading business.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the integrity and accuracy of T&S daily physical exposure, pricing and flash P&L, which is a critical enabler for Ampol to manage risk and capture trading value.
The Trading Analysis Manager drives best practices and consistency across the Singapore and US offices. The Trading Analysis Manager directly supports the trading desks in exposure and P&L management and has a good understanding of the trading strategies and value drivers of the desk. The Trading Analysis Manager manages a team of Trading Analysts in ensuring that all trading activity is correctly captured in source systems and properly represented in exposure and P&L reporting to enable future decision making. The Trading Analysis Manager, being the subject matter expert, will represent the front office in projects and continuous improvement initiatives relating to systems, processes, exposure and P&L. The Trading Analysis Manager also provides recommendations and analysis to support business decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the subject matter expert in physical oil trades, derivatives and the calculation of exposure and P&L. Maintain a good understanding of trading flows, strategies, risk and value drivers including transfer pricing mechanisms in order to provide guidance to team members and recommendations to senior management.
  • Identify, assess and solve complex business problems, where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Analytics lead representative in CTRM, new businesses, projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Reviews/assess current procedures, make recommendations and implements improvements to establish procedures to drive best practices and consistency across the Singapore and US offices
  • Develop and lead the implementation of new initiatives, including development of tactical tools and designing new processes where necessary to support international growth, new businesses, and CTRM.
  • Manage the Trading Analysis function, ensuring sufficient resources through recruitment and engagement. Form individual development plans, provide coaching to drive team performance and address performance issues pro-actively.
  • Manage various stakeholders, including operations and middle office, to resolve exposure and P&L issues. Enable RCOP P&L reporting by managing the daily internal hedging process and understand cargo level P&L including cost allocations. Liaise with Ampol Australia and Z Energy on transfer pricing.
  • Manage daily trade confirmation of physical deals, ensure trade details are correctly captured in the source system and accurately reflected in the trader exposure sheet.
  • Gatekeeper of master data in source systems relevant to the trading areas, including price index maintenance and trading strategy allocations.
  • Provide/Assist management, traders and other teams within Ampol Group with analysis, queries and reporting to support business decisions.
