EXPERIENCE:

  • Energy Operations: Having worked in an operations team within an energy company, with experience of tracking and managing operational issues, through to escalation and issue resolutions related to complex contracts.
  • Reporting: Experience as an Analyst, where developing and implementing KPI reporting systems based on contract summaries and other data was a primary responsibility.
  • Project Development and Delivery: Working with an IT & Change professionals to raise requirements, review scope and project documentation and complete acceptance testing.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Background in collecting and analysing data for KPIs such as supply and demand forecasts, tender responses, and origination pipeline status.
  • Modelling & Analysis: Performing ad-hoc analysis on contract performance using predefined parameters and commercial rules.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Manage multiple priorities with confidence in communicating roadblocks to stakeholders

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Energy Industry: Strong understanding of energy industry processes, systems and operations that support the management of wholesale contracts.
  • Wholesale Energy Markets: Understanding of the Australian wholesale power markets and related generation contracts across multiple asset types.
  • Trading Operations: The structure and operational processes of an energy trading department.
  • Project Management: Understanding of project management methodology
  • Regulatory Landscape: A general understanding of the legal, regulatory and compliance requirements of a retail energy business; and
  • Reporting & Data Management: Proficient in data management and analysis, using software such as Excel, SQL, and Python.
  • KPI Reporting Development: Ability to develop and implement KPI reporting systems, with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence software.

Responsibilities:

ROLE PURPOSE

The Trading Operations Analyst is part of the Trading Operations team that forms part of the Trading Group. The primary focus of the role is to deliver operational excellence within the Trading Group, ensuring compliance and support to other front-office and the back-office functions.
The role will be dynamic in nature, completing activities from the post execution contract lifecycle of non-standard wholesale contracts, from deal entry to the ETRM platform through to contract obligation performance, as well as trading team operational performance, continuous improvement, and related reporting for internal and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contract Management: Manage activities for the contract life cycle of wholesale non-standard contracts, that includes but is not limited to Power Purchase Agreements (‘PPAs’) and Tolling Agreements for batteries and peaking assets. This shall include:
  • Deal Entry: Ensuring the accurate and timely entry of contracts into the Energy Trading and Risk Management platform (ETRM) and other related systems.
  • Contract Compliance: Activities related to ensuring all contract obligations are met by both SmartestEnergy and its contractual counterparties.
  • Performance Reporting: Regular and ad-hoc reporting related to relevant contract performance.
  • Counterparty Engagement: Liaise with wholesale counterparties and renewable developers where required to relevant contracts.
  • Operational Reporting: Support the development and maintain reports, collect data, and provide insights related to Trading Operations KPI reporting, operational issues and trends across forecasting, pricing, and origination activities.
  • Compliance: Support the adherence to license obligations and provide required reporting for regulatory bodies.
  • Operation Issues Resolution: Keep track record of all operational issues within the Trading team to be escalated to the appropriate forum.
  • Continuous Improvement: Working with IT & Change department for the implementation of IT project and solutions targeting Trading Operations, that includes:
  • Continuous Improvements: Develop process maps and assess operational processes for improvements.
  • Training Materials: Develop training materials for relevant teams on processes, products, and general guidelines.
  • Systems: Completing acceptance testing for new system development
