Description:

Frimley Health Foundation Trust are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join us in a Part-time position of 30 hours per as a Trainee Associate Mammographer position, working in our busy department at the Parapet Breast Unit in Windsor. You will be starting at Band 3 AFC and then progressing to Band 4 once qualified.
The Parapet Breast Screening Unit is based at King Edward Hospital VII, Windsor and provides Breast Imaging and treatment services for the population of East Berkshire.
You will be working with Clients as part of the NHSBSP Breast Screening Programme and those attending the Symptomatic and Oncology clinics.
The Apprenticeship training involves attending teams meetings for lectures, discussions and independent study (15-18 months). The course involves attending practical and theory week at the Nightingale Centre in Manchester and regular tutorials via remote access. The Practical aspect of the course will be carried out within the Parapet Breast Unit. A suitable mentor will be provided during the course at your main unit.
Requirement is minimum age 18 years and be legally allowed to work in the UK and have lived here for at least 3 years.

Responsibilities:

Preparing women for mammography
Operating equipment safely (X-ray and Ultrasound) reassuring and supporting women during their mammogram
Taking mammograms to national standard
Maintaining accurate records using information management systems effectively
Evaluating own performance and suggesting improvement
Working as part of a team of different professionals
In addition to the above responsibilities you will be expected to carry out nursing duties during Ultrasound procedures which will involve helping Radiologists during biopsy procedures, setting up a biopsy trolley, and completing the necessary paperwork
Your role will also involve carrying out an administration role in preparing screening clinics for reporting, checking images on PACS and reports on the NBSS and EPIC systems. Preparing clinics for consensus meetings and completing final checks

To undertake radiographic procedures under supervision of registered radiographic staff
To assist the Radiologist in ensuring the smooth operation of Ultrasound sessions
Preparation of sterile trolleys and assisting with room preparation for special procedures
To carry out instructions from qualified radiological staff accurately and promptly
To assist as required with patient care during assessment clinics when clinical ultrasound and biopsy examinations are performed
To prepare screening clinics for reporting by the Radiologists/Advanced Practitioner
To process and prepare images and paperwork from mobile van in preparation for reporting
To undertake routine clerical procedures as necessary.
To retrieve previous films when required by reporting staff.
To prepare lists for consensus meetings
To ensure that housekeeping duties are carried out to the required standard including: cleaning of equipment, keeping examination rooms clean and tidy and ensuring that stocks of disposable items are replenished
To be able to use NHSBSP computer system and other computer systems that are required in the breast service
To provide an excellent standard of care for clients/patients at all times
To answer client’s questions and know when appropriate to refer them to the relevant personnel.
To assist in day to day care/maintenance of unit radiological equipment
To undergo staff appraisal and review where training and development issues will be identified and discussed
To maintain CPD portfolio
To work in static and mobile unit as deemed necessary by the needs of the service
To ensure patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times in accordance with Trust policy
To carry out QA tests on radiological equipment and log results accurately under direction from QA radiographer and reporting unsatisfactory tests results to supervising radiographer
To report incident/accidents in accordance with Trust policy
To follow department Quality Management System (QMS) processes and take part in quality control, NHS quality assurance and unit QMS audit
To comply with COSHH, IR(ME)R 2018 and departmental policies and protocol
