About the role
We are seeking a values driven Trainee Community Engagement Worker who’s primary purpose is to assist in the engagement of Indigenous clients in programs and help organise activities within the community in culturally appropriate ways. Duties will be completed under the daily supervision of The Salvation Army Karratha Corps Officer. The Trainee is expected to complete Certificate 3 or Certificate 4 in Community Services (or equivalent) whilst employed in the role.

You will successfully

  • Be welcoming to community members to build good relationships.
  • Assist organising community events.
  • Help clients access services they need.
  • With guidance provide advice to employees and/or volunteers on services.
  • Assist in the delivery of cultural activities and programs.
  • With support work with all levels of people from a range of diverse backgrounds.
  • Contribute to service delivery that is of a high quality, transparent and accountable standard.
  • Be a valued team member in diverse community service setting.
  • Assist to maintain electronic records and data in accordance with policies, guidelines and standards of The Salvation Army.
  • As directed attend relevant meetings and training.
  • Follow all Work Health and Safety guidelines as outlined by The Salvation Army (TSA).

This is a part time, Max-term position (20 Hours per week for two (2) years), based in Karratha, WA. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Miscellaneous Award, National Training Wage.
This is an Identified role that is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. This provision is permissible in accordance with Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act (1977).

You will have

  • Certificate II Community Services or equivalent (or working towards)
  • Relevant experience working with or in Aboriginal communities (desired).
  • Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date.
  • Ability to undertake Certificate III or IV in Community Services (or equivalent)
  • A current and valid Working with Children Check or equivalent
  • A current WA drivers’ licence
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity
  • Demonstrated writing skills to create emails and contribute to reports.
  • Ability to use computer-based software including MS Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate well with others in the community and internally.
  • Organisation skills including to set priorities and achieve objectives within specific timeframes.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team and independently.
