An exciting opportunity has arisen for a an experienced Sonographer to join our team whilst working towards becoming a Consultant Sonographer.
The successful candidate will already have an excellent knowledge base through their experience and qualification, or willing to undertake the required qualifications.
There is an opportunity for flexible working, with options for evening and weekend work .
To act as an autonomous ultrasound practitioner performing and reporting a broad range of ultrasound examinations from multiple patient pathways, whilst working towards Consultant Sonographer status. To assist the Consultant Radiographer with the day to day running of the department. To provide training and supervision for relevant qualified staff groups and students deployed to the ultrasound department. They must have expert knowledge in non-obstetric ultrasound.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice

  • Exhibit highly developed specialist knowledge , critical thinking and expert decision making skills to produce and review images and provide highly complex and sensitive formal reports.
  • To drive forward the boundaries of own practice and that of Sonographers and Advanced Practitioners.
  • Works inter-professionally in the clinical context.
  • Verify reports (own or others) including the evaluation and amendments where appropriate.
  • Accurately and independently recognise normal and abnormal pathology
  • To acknowledge their limitations and to seek advice from a radiologist as necessary
  • To maintain and promote partnership working with other healthcare professionals with expertise in the field e.g. radiologists, other doctors, advanced nurse practitioners and allied health professional who refer patients for diagnostic imaging.
  • To demonstrate and maintain highly developed specialist knowledge of NOUS practice and to promote high quality clinical practice.
  • To exercise expert clinical judgements routinely and represent the patients best interest throughout the care pathway.
  • To manage own workload effectively and in a timely manner.
  • To develop protocols, policies and standard operating procedures which underpin clinical practice.
  • To mentor and supervise trainees in ultrasound practice.
  • To attend MDTs as appropriate and to contribute to the discussions providing clear well rationalised evidence based advice and recommendations when there are a range of clinical options
  • Understand the significance of incidental findings and use excellent critical analysis and judgement skills to process examinations appropriately.
  • To communicate imaging results/findings directly to the referring clinical, or other medical representative providing clear well rationalised evidence based advice and recommendations.

Professional Leadership, Consultancy and Communication

  • To provide effective clinical leadership for Sonographers, motivating and inspiring others to deliver the best care for patients within the directorate.
  • Use highly developed interpersonal skills to persuade influence and negotiate, working at department, inter-department and external organisations facilitating co-operation
  • To engage with other clinicians across professions in the development and advancement of innovative practice requiring the planning and organisation of a broad range of complex issues and components in order to formulate plans and strategies to implement improved service delivery.
  • To lead evidence-based reconfiguration of existing clinical practices through clinical audit and research to underpin and inform changes of clinical practice.
  • To act as a role model.
  • To actively participate on national forums and share best practice advising and proposing policy changes or service development at a local, regional and national level.
  • To review and critically evaluate national and regional policies and advise the Trust on implementation locally and amendments to local policy.
