Description:

Regional posts have a lot to offer trainees. They provide comprehensive general ophthalmology clinical experience with increased opportunities to follow each patient through the course of their presenting problem. This contrasts with the patient journey in big city teaching hospitals where patients are typically funneled into subspecialty clinics following their initial presentation. In addition, regional terms typically offer trainees a wider range of surgical training.

  • Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience at commencement of post, with 6 to 12 months demonstrated ophthalmology experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursue a career in Ophthalmology with a view for further training with RANZCO by providing evidence of continued professional development
  • Demonstrated effective teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary clinical care team.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education and teaching undergraduate and post-graduates
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues; Demonstrates ability to provide empathetic clinical care.
  • Drivers licence in order to provide service between hospitals and out of hour
