Description:

  1. Clinical With supervision to be responsible for a small caseload of clients for the assessment of care needs to include simple and complex clinical problems of the patient supported whilst training. Responsible with supervision whilst training for the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the patient whose needs may be predictable or unpredictable and / or unstable and changing to ensure delivery of high standards of care. To develop the independent skill through supervised training, mentorship and attendance at BSGE accredited hysteroscopy course To attend and complete the post graduate certificate in diagnostic hysteroscopy and therapeutic management course for nurses as identified by the BSGE To identify the requirements of the patient needs in elective / emergency situations and have the knowledge and skills to act accordingly To establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups about difficult or complex matters to overcome any problems in communication and to ensure that appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.
    To support and involve patients / clients / carers relatives and liaise with and coordinate other members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of individualised care. To be responsible for maintaining patients records within agreed standards to ensure the care management plan is communicated to patients and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Adopt a positive approach to infection control, actively contributing to infection control policy and practice. 2.
    Management / Leadership To contribute to the effective use of physical, financial and human resources Lead, supervise and provide training to new registered and non registered staff i.e HCAs and student nurses. To provide advice and support ensuring safe and effective care and that educational needs are met. Contribute to discussion, debate and influence change in practice underpinned by research that is evidence based. This will include assisting the lead nurse in development of guidelines and policy with specific reference to Hysteroscopy Act as a team leader where appropriate ensuring effective teamwork and promote healthy working relations with support from mentor /trainer.
    Monitor and maintain own and others health, safety and security To work within an ethical framework utilising the NMC code of conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the department, organisation to promote safe and effective evidence based practice and contribute to quality improvement. To understand and take ownership of own training pathway with due consideration of the requirements of the BSGE for qualification. In the absence of the Lead specialist nurse when deligated to take charge of an identified area of work and manage the standards of care and daily responsibilities, including work allocation, deployment and supervision of staff to ensure smooth running of the area. 3.
    Education and Continuing Professional Development To maintain competency and produce evidence demonstrating continued professional development in the role of the Nurse Hysteroscopist . To ensure that whilst training BSGE log book requirements are kept in a timely manner and trainer is aware of ongoing training needs. To be conversant and comply with trust policies and regulations ensure attendance at trust mandatory training sessions and those deemed necessary to role. To Lead Hysteroscopy Nurse when further competency / development is required.
    To participate in personal / career development plan to maintain and develop attitudes, skills and knowledge facilitating personal and professional growth in order to maximise contribution to and quality of service delivery. To support the personal and professional growth of new, registered and non registered staff, and learners in order to maximise their contribution to and quality of service delivery. To participate fully in the implementation of staff personal development plans to facilitate on going development. 4.
    Quality / Research and Development To contribute to the audit of hysteroscopy services and develop a working knowledge of reporting system and quality initiatives within field of Hysteroscopy. Demonstrate research awareness and ability to participate in and regularly support on going research in nursing / medical practice, clinical trials, medical research and equipment testing. To work within an ethical and legal framework utilising the NMC code of professional conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the department / organisation to promote safe and effective evidence based practice and contribute to quality improvement. To work within the guidance described within the BSGE outline statement and training Log.
    Propose changes within own area of work using evidence based practice. Report and investigate when delegated incidents in relation to Hysteroscopy nurse role using the DATIX reporting system. 5. Professional To maintain a professional attitude at all times developing the role of the nurse in the best interest of the patient and profession in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council Standards and Guidelines.
    To be aware of personal and professional development. To attend courses and conferences as recommended and approved by the Head of Maternity & Gynaecology. Participate in research projects where appropriate, report findings within a multidisciplinary framework. Implement research where appropriate.
  2. Personnel. Participate in devising induction programmes for newly appointed staff. To assist the Department manager in monitoring staff performance when requested.
    To assist the departmental manager / lead colposcopy nurse in the maintenance of day to day discipline within the department. To inform the departmental manager / responsible consultant of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance, and taking appropriate action where required. To counsel staff in relation to personnel and professional matters. This job description will be subject to discussion and periodic review and may subsequently be changed by mutual agreement.
    On completion of training this job description will be reviewed and changed to reflect the role of independent nurse Hysteroscopist
