Responsibilities:

DEPARTMENT PURPOSE

The Regulation and Conduct team (the Team) is part of A&O Shearman’s wider risk function (headed by partner, Simon Fuge). The risk function comprises the Team, In-House Legal (IHL), the Business Acceptance Unit (the BAU), Risk Operations, Office of the General Counsel (OGC), the Engagement Terms Team, Client Audit and Data Privacy.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

A mixed compliance role which encompasses:

  • Expertise in online portals which host e-learning, surveys and the Global Policy Portal (GPP)
  • Experience in creatively developing and enhancing policies and processes around provision of training and surveys
  • Establish external relationship with online training (system and content) providers
  • Expert contact for any queries related to online portals
  • Assist with the online Annual Compliance Return (“ACR”) process including developing relationships with stakeholders and key departments e.g. the on-line provider, Regulation & Conduct, HR Systems, Global HR and Risk contacts, Risk Committee members
  • Implement process improvements and explore viable alternatives in partnership with IT and identify new opportunities for leverage to allow for optimisation of use
  • Identify any potential risks with training compliance systems, policies and processes and escalate to senior management if required maintaining and monitoring continuing professional development ("CPD") records of lawyers using a learning management system and assisting lawyers and support staff with CPD queries understanding global training regimes
  • Ensuring lawyers and support staff are compliant with various training regulations through expertise on professional accreditation
  • Acting as point of contact for lawyers and support staff with queries regarding the administration of the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (“SQE”)

OTHER DUTIES

  • Co-ordinate and administer compliance training packages as required
  • Assisting the Regulation and Conduct team with handling regulatory and compliance issues for the Allen Overy Shearman Sterling group as and when required
  • Support for the Training Events team globally
  • Developing and maintaining close relationships with HR Learning and Development team and other global training teams
  • Requesting and collating feedback for on-line courses and raising and suggesting solutions to issues that arise
  • Maintaining and updating information on the Compliance Training and SQE intranet sites
  • Ensuring procedures and training guides are up to date
  • Ad-hoc project work
