Description:

Do you have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills paired with basic cash handling skills? If so, we want you on our Engineering Services Team!

As the successful candidate as the Transfer Station Operator (Seasonal), you will be accountable for the day-to-day operation of the Westside Disposal and Transfer Facility to ensure its orderly use and public safety, and that the fees as established by the Regional Board are charged accordingly to the users of the site. You will:

  • Follow procedure to collect fees, handle cash, prepare, and issue receipts, record the volume of waste delivered to the site and the number of vehicles utilizing the facility.
  • Identify hazardous, unauthorized, or unacceptable materials.
  • Provide instruction and education to facility users on proper disposal of various materials, Transfer Station rules, and disposal restrictions.
  • Direct vehicles to support safe operation and control the flow of traffic.
  • Convey instructions or direction to on-site contractors as the primary on-site contact.
  • Clean and provide general maintenance to the control office and site.
  • Balance daily receipts, fill out bank deposits and deposit monies.
  • Coordinate transfer times for disposal, recycling, or other waste diversion activities.
  • Communicate concerns or issues to the Manager for further action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of one year experience in a related field, Grade 12 education, First Aid Level 1, WHMIS and a valid BC Driver’s License. In addition, you will have basic computer operation and knowledge, be able to work independently and within a team setting and have excellent communication and customer service skills.
This is a 9 month-seasonal CUPE 338 position (March 1st to November 30th) that works Friday to Monday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and pays $29.21 per hour.
