As Transport Department Manager you will be directly responsible for the overall operating performance of the department. This role offers diversity, challenge, the ability to make your mark and grow the department. You will have a strong focus on people leadership and development, managing key stakeholder relationships, and have operational and financial accountability. You will also drive a strong safety culture and strive for the continuous improvement of your department and operations

You will:

  • Fleet Management of trucks and trailers
  • Client and sub-contractor management
  • Running of all heavy haulage, transport, aggregate cartage, and site trucks operations feeding into all our other businesses and external opportunities
  • Manage the commercial, H&S, HR and operational management, administration of running the department
  • Ensure your staff are provided with leadership and guidance to maximise performance
  • Ensure the delivery of all work to required standards
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and other key stakeholders

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Solid department management experience in trucking / transport / fleet management
  • Extensive leadership and people management experience with a strong focus on mentoring and leadership
  • Understanding of job pricing including labour, plant and materials and associated margin / profit calculations
  • Operational management – planning, resource allocation and coordination
  • Financial management – budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, reconciliation, reporting
  • Have an understanding of civil construction methods, systems and techniques
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritise to meet numerous and demanding deadlines
  • Advanced computer literacy, keyboard and file management skills
