Arlington/Roe, a family-owned property/casualty wholesaler and managing general agency since 1964, has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter in our Transportation department at our corporate headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.

SUMMARY JOB STATEMENT:

The purpose of this position is to provide support to underwriter(s) in producing, servicing, and analyzing risks of new and renewal business. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; strong decision-making skills and the ability to manage time & reprioritize effectively. A strong work ethic, good organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment is critical. Must have the ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with peers, clients, carriers, and industry personnel.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant course of study preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of assistant underwriting or underwriting support experience
  • Experience with transportation underwriting
  • Demonstrated results in customer service and retaining a book of business
  • Thorough understanding of transportation related insurance coverages
  • Demonstrated ability to build solid relationships with clients (internally and externally)
  • AINS, AU, CPCU CRM, CIC, or TRS designations preferred
  • Positive interpersonal relations
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Excellent decision-making ability and good judgement
  • Ability to persuade others and persevere
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to operate within underwriting guidelines
  • Excellent documentation and file management skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task, and manage time effectively

MARKET & PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

  • Clearly demonstrate specific knowledge of product lines, coverage, and state requirements
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with your underwriter and the designated state marketing representatives to establish marketing initiatives for the state(s) for which you are responsible
  • Build and maintain positive agency relationships via phone calls, emails, and agency visits
  • Stay current and proficient in state and federal filing requirements
