Description:

Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineer will assist in validating, operating, and developing the Department’s Pavement Management System (PaveM) with emphasis on pavement performance models evaluation, analysis, and optimization. The incumbent maintains and enhances PaveM functionality by supporting data flow and configuration settings, analyzing PaveM scenario results, and generating reports for management and stakeholders. The incumbent will assist in performing, coordinating, and/or monitoring technical studies by analyzing pavement conditions and PaveM results and writing technical reports on the findings from these studies. The Transportation Engineer will assist in validating and developing quality control standards for the Automated Pavement Condition Survey (APCS) data. The incumbent will assist in developing, maintaining, coordinating, and supporting the Office’s mapping and related Geographic Information System (GIS) needs. The Transportation Engineer must be able to assist in or independently provide training to the districts and other partners. The incumbent must have knowledge of pavement evaluation, design, and analysis methodologies, and knowledge in pavement performance modeling in relation to materials responses, traffic, and climate, and be able to independently prepare and review reports on complex problems/issues relating to pavements. The Transportation Engineer must also have a good knowledge of statistical and probabilistic modeling of civil engineering systems with emphasis on pavements. The incumbent supports the development of the annual State of the Pavement Report (SOP) and the pavement portion of the State Highway System Management Plan (SHSMP). The incumbent assists in performing, coordinating, and/or monitoring technical studies.
