ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Metro DC operation is seeking a Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our Tysons Corner, VA Transportation Systems team. The selected candidate will work with VHB’s passionate team of engineers, planners, and designers on a variety of projects across a broad cross-section of markets. This includes partnering with public and private clients at the federal, state, and local levels to improve mobility, enhance communities, boost economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of engineering experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (a master’s degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience)
  • Engineer-in-Training certification preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Works within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects.
  • Applies an understanding of traffic signal operations, design, and systems.
  • Assists with the management of traffic engineering projects, assignments, and proposals.
  • Prepares traffic safety and operational improvement studies and technical reports for localized intersections and corridors.
  • Supports in the preparation of policy and design guidance documents for traffic, technology, and control devices.
  • Prepares technical specifications for review and approval.
  • Evaluates vendor bids and drawings to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Performs field tests, takes measurements, and collects field data, as necessary.
  • May provide technical guidance to or supervise junior team members and assign/coordinate tasks.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Assists on projects involving simulation and signal optimization plans to maximize transportation system throughput (using SYNCHRO, CORSIM, VISSIM or related software).
  • Assists with conceptual, preliminary, and/or final design for roadway, intersection, traffic control, and/or pedestrian/bicycle facilities.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.
