SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Trauma Program Coordinator, the Trauma Performance Coordinator, in accordance with the American College of Surgeons guidelines and standards, conducts retrospective and concurrent case reviews for event identification, investigation, reporting, and analysis for performance improvement. The Performance Improvement Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives to enhance the care of the trauma patient throughout the care continuum and in accordance with the standards of Nuvance Health System.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensed NYS Registered Nurse
Preferred board certifications such as Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) or critical care registered nurse (CCRN)
Knowledge of TOPIC course or ATS Trauma Performance Improvement course
Knowledge of Trauma PI processes by the American College of Surgeons
Previous experience working experience at a Level 1 or 2 Trauma center

Responsibilities:

Conducts primary reviews on all defined trauma patients for performance improvement tracking across the continuum of care.
Monitors clinical outcomes related to quality of care and assists in developing audit filters for review based on trends in registry data.
Prepares and presents select cases for secondary review with all relevant clinical information and identified opportunities for improvement.
Documents all levels of review (primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary) through loop-closure in the trauma registry-based software and departmental meeting minutes.
Provides written and/or verbal feedback to various disciplines across the care continuum as determined by the Trauma Program leadership.
Develops, implements, and analyzes specific, data-driven performance improvement projects and injury prevention initiatives based on trauma registry data trends and Trauma Quality Improvement Program data.
In collaboration with the Trauma Program leadership, assists with the design and implementation of audits and reports to support registry data validation, facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and conduct research while maintaining confidentiality.
In collaboration with the Trauma Program leadership, assist with the development of program-specific administrative and clinical guidelines, serving as a resource for clinical practice and provides education to any pre-hospital, hospital, health-care agency, and/or community resources that requests assistance or information related to trauma or injury prevention activities.
Develops, organizes, facilitates, and/or participates in trauma-related educational opportunities with target audiences for healthcare providers such as physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pre-hospital providers as well as community members in formal or informal settings.
Manages professional growth and development by participating in trauma-related educational opportunities, committees, and projects at the local, state, and national levels. Represents the trauma program at local, regional, and national levels
Actively participates in ongoing preparation for American College of Surgeons site visits.
Performs other duties as requested by the Trauma Program leadership.
