Description:

SERVICE AREA: EDUCATION INCLUSION

Department: Special Education Needs Team
The SEN Team wish to recruit a dynamic person to manage an allocated caseload of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who require Home to School Travel Plans. Co-ordinating the relationship between parent/carer, children and young people, the SEND team and Passenger Transport to deliver the right travel plan.
In liaison with the SEND Practitioner and guided by the Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), you will determine the most appropriate travel provision to ensure compliance with BATHNES policy, statutory guidance, and best practice. This will include the review of existing Home to School Travel Plans to ensure they remain compliant, ensure the best value and achieve the best outcomes to promote the child, young person’s independence.
As Travel Officer, you will manage travel training contracts, travel budgets, and maintain accurate records so that information is accessible, auditable, and can be used in any appeals procedures. You will report any issues/pressures to senior colleagues as well as contribute to the development of the BATHNES Home to School Transport Strategic Plan to ensure that the needs of SEND children and young people are addressed.
You will have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively deliver information to parents, carers and schools relating to transport decisions.

As well as being a highly motivated individual, you will have:

  • ‘A’ levels or equivalent level qualifications as a minimum NVQ3 level qualifications or above in a relevant subject or equivalent experience in a relevant area.
  • It would be desirable for the candidate to have knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and statutory guidance associated with Home to School Travel arrangements as well as statutory frameworks relating to SEND and EHCPs.
  • Excellent and dynamic communication skills, both written and oral, formal and informal; demonstrating an articulate and confident manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Excellent standard of computer literacy including ability to formulate and analyse management information.
  • Good Analytical skills.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Ability to motivate and support people within a rapidly changing environment and to manage financial budgets.
  • Ability to learn quickly, undertake appropriate training and adapt to change and work.

Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
