Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Fellow to join our Intensive Care Medicine Team.
The Critical Care Unit admits over 950 patients per year: approximately 50% are medical patients, 50% are surgical and 95% of admissions are emergencies. Approximately 55% require advanced respiratory or multi-organ support. The mean APACHE II score is 16 and the ICU SMR is 0.86. The unit is currently staffed to care for up to 16 critically ill patients at one time across two Intensive Care Units.
This is a non-training post that provides excellent learning opportunities and can help to prepare candidates for primary qualifications in their chosen field. As well as the valuable clinical experience, protected time for weekly teaching, we provide self-development time to concentrate on quality improvement projects, research and other areas tailored to the individual’s training requirements including FUSIC accreditation. The acclaimed consultant body has a strong track-record in supporting trainee career development, postgraduate exam success and securing future training posts. We are highly rated in the GMC survey and get consistently good results from our local trainee feedback. All doctors, regardless of training status receive an educational supervisor and study budget.
Options for additional experience paired with anaesthesia if desired and successful at interview. For informal contact please ring Dr Charlie Pope on 01225 825056 (ITU).
Although this is not a recognised training post, there will be opportunities for learning and development. You will be expected to be responsible for your own learning by making full use of the tutorial system, access to academic staff and consultant’s teaching and to attend as directed for training and in-service commitments.
You will be expected to prepare presentations as requested for tutorials and assist in any collection of information for audit procedures as and when these are carried out within the department. The department has a structured clinical governance and communication programme where practices are assessed, guidelines reviewed etc that ensures an ethos of continual quality and service improvement.
