Description:
The POWER of a CAREER! Northpointe Bank is seeking a detail oriented, customer service minded individual to join our Retail Lending Team as an Underwriter. This position requires an individual who has the desire to make a difference within the organization. This position is responsible for underwriting all government loans which include USDA, Rural Development, FHA, VA and conventional loans with a production target of 50 loans per month. This includes: assistance in evaluating loan risk by verifying loan application information against loan guidelines and standards, reviewing all necessary documents for each file (i.e., appraisals, surveys, title work, payoffs, etc.); to ensure the documentation meets all investor and/or internal product guidelines. Maintain current knowledge of all investor program requirements by utilizing AllRegs and other industry tools. Position requires an individual with the ability to create, interpret, and apply policy, make decisions regarding what the organization will do in relation to the scope of the department, and exercise discretion about significant matters.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least five years of customer service experience preferred.
- At least 5 years mortgage underwriting. Active DE and Processing knowledge
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of mortgage documents.
- Proficient computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, any other mortgage/banking software, etc.).
- Professional demeanor and interaction with all customers (internal and external).
- Effective interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment as well as independently.
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision while obtaining satisfactory results.
- Ability to pay attention to detail while handling a high volume of work with multiple interruptions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and customers, work independently and is self-motivated.
- Effective project management skills and the ability to proactively problem solve.

Responsibilities:
- Working knowledge of all automated underwriting programs. i.e. DU, LP, GUS
- Underwrite Loan files that meet investor, Agency and government loan guidelines
- Review Loan files for potential mortgage fraud.
- Assist operations and sales staff in loan scenario discussions
- Assist in training and mentoring of new team members
- Thorough understanding of mortgage documents along with a complete understanding of how to close and fund a loan.
- Manage a working pipeline to meet department production goals.
- Provide training and guidance to underwriting staff.
- Meet established standards and guidelines with regard to compliance, job knowledge, quality, attendance, efficiency, initiative, customer service, and overall performance.
- Maintain customer confidence by providing ongoing quality service and keeping all files and information confidential.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and compliance with internal policies and procedures. Understand and ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations affecting our institution.
