Our client is a leading insurance group who help protect industries around the world from the risks they face. They are now looking for an Underwriting Control Review Consultant, initially on a 12-month FTC contract to define the responsibilities and strengthen the controls and oversight of their Underwriting Function. A large part of this role will involve the downsizing and rebuild of their current manual, to improve risk and compliance. Feeding back to stakeholders, working groups, and managing a range of associated commercial projects. There is a possibility that this contract could be extended or even move, from temp to perm. The role will require one day per week from their London offices, hybrid work model.
UNDERWRITING CONTROL REVIEW CONSULTANT – REQUIRED SKILLS
- Previous underwriting, and commercial insurance experience
- Understanding and experience of risk and control assessments
- Design and maintenance experience of Underwriting Control Frameworks
- Previous experience drafting clear, and concise Underwriting Control documentation
- Design of tools/MI experience to support performance of each Underwriting Control
- Ability to lead a range of projects across various business functions

Responsibilities:
- Agree and action response to SICSIC Report
- Build controls framework, and logs existing Underwriting Controls
- Outline who has responsibility for controls, defining owners and contributors and identifying which controls, policies sit under
- Develop reporting and MI, considering the audience and their requirements
- Review escalation process
- Management and writing of the Underwriting Controls Manual into its constituent parts such as UW, Ops, Exposure Management, Outwards Reinsurance and Compliance
- Review suitability of existing Underwriting Controls
- Build additional Controls if necessary and Removal of ineffective Controls
- Identify improvements in underlying MI
