Underwriting Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Underwriting Manager will be mainly responsible for managing a team of primarily non-QM underwriters, overseeing the underwriting of complex non-agency / non-QM loans as well as government and conventional loans.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Thorough knowledge of underwriting procedures and real estate appraisal requirements
• Thorough knowledge of creditor financial analysis techniques and mortgage credit evaluation
• Thorough knowledge of criteria, guidelines and government regulations associated with various loan types (i.e., FHLMC, FNMA, FHA, VA, Conventional, Private Investor)
• Good PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheet software
• Ability to handle a high degree of attention to detail
• LendingQB/MLM experience a plus
• A strong track record of collaboration with operations and sales peers in developing client-friendly processes and policies
• A passion for outstanding customer service
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as quantitative and qualitative management skills and practices
• Skilled leader of remote staff and confident user of technology such as Teams, and other tools to engage remote underwriters

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or an equivalent combination of education / experience
• Minimum of 10 years residential mortgage underwriting experience, with strong experience in non-traditional, non-agency and/or non-QM products. Wholesale and Non-delegated correspondent experience mandatory.
• Minimum 5 years of senior-level mortgage underwriting management experience
• HUD Direct Endorsement Underwriter designation preferred
• SAR/VA LAPP Designation preferred
