Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Unit Service Worker will assume responsibility for maintaining an orderly, clean, well stocked and supplied unit environment, including patient care equipment. They will also participate in the transfer/transport of patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must successfully complete MMC s relevant PCA/NA program

Preferred:

  • 3-12 months previous employment in a service-oriented position preferred i.e., Health Care, Hotel Service, Customer Service

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Full Time

Responsibilities:

  • Answers call bells and obtains appropriate personnel to meet patient needs
  • Washes beds and mattresses, remakes beds after patient discharge as needed
  • Assumes responsibility for all courier trips including errands to pharmacy, medical records and other ancillary departments
  • Assumes responsibility for all patient discharges, transports and transfers
  • Carries out errands for the unit at the direction of the Registered Nurse
  • Cleans and maintains patient care equipment
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient rooms and physical set up of the nursing unit
  • Distributes laundered articles and linen. Empty wastebaskets and replace with fresh liner
  • Maintains unit environment in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Maintains utility and storage rooms in clean and orderly condition. Restocks supplies
  • Performs unit rounds to identify and report safety hazards
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment and performs proper surveillance for the prevention of falls
  • Records temperature logs for refrigerators daily
  • Removes patient items post discharge: soiled linens, equipment, etc. Cleans white boards. Replaces gloves in patient rooms. Prepares room for terminal cleaning by housekeeping. Facilitates process of room turnover
  • Reports any large soiled areas to housekeeping supervisor
  • Set up patient dietary trays
