Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Working collaboratively alongside partners and professional staff globally, including leaders based across Asia, the Senior Manager will drive and support the implementation of business development plans consistent with the firm’s strategies and with a focus on developing business across Asia so that they are completed on time and on target, and track project progress. The ideal candidate will bring experience, exceptional organizational skills, and a blend of project leadership, business analysis, executive communication, process management, and people development.
The Senior Manager should have a strong understanding of the legal market across Asia with good knowledge of (i) regional financial markets and the investment climate, (ii) the primary regional sovereign wealth funds and key components of a global sovereign wealth fund practice, and (iii) regional development opportunities in diverse practice areas including disputes and internal investigations. The Senior Manager should have experience and a comfort level communicating and coordinating with global practice teams to target regional opportunities in coordination with the local practice teams and with local counsel in various regional jurisdictions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

This role requires:

  • University degree in a related field or equivalent. An advanced degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience of progressively responsible business development experience, ideally within a law firm, professional services firm, or related industry (i.e. investment banking, etc.).
  • Experience in a supervisory, management or leadership role with proven experience of managing mid to large scale projects would be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key tasks/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributes to the development, prioritization, and implementation of business development plans across the Asia offices.
  • Supports partners and lawyers across Asia and globally to build, maintain and develop client relationships with current and prospective clients with their activities in and outbound from Asia.
  • Drives a strategic focus on developing business in areas such as investment management, corporate transactions, and disputes, investigations and international sanctions across Asia.
  • Works collaboratively with industry groups to support, drive and implement industry-related activities across Asia.
  • Identifies key opportunities, drafts plans and engages in driving the execution of plans to enhance the firm’s profile including through client-focused activity across Asia.
  • Contributes strategically to the development of relationships with local law firms across Asia.
  • Collaborates with the firm’s Alumni Team to support engagement with alumni activities across Asia.
  • Engages in drafting plans, collaborates with client leaders and client team members, and drives the execution of plans to generate and co-ordinate activity with clients.
  • Effectively organizes information, gathers resources and manages multiple projects.
  • Generates high quality work products in multiple formats (e.g., presentation slides, Excel project plan, Word documents).
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to accomplish multiple assignments and deliverables on an ongoing basis under very tight deadlines.
  • Develops, supports and implements recommendations and manages projects specifically related to achieving business development plan objectives from inception to completion.
  • Creates and maintains tracking and reporting tools as necessary (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, and reports).
  • Participates in teleconferences and meetings to provide information and promote continued implementation of objectives identified in applicable business development plans.
  • Researches and analyzes information to identify business development opportunities.
  • Participates in Practice Group and Local Management meetings as requested.
  • Works collaboratively with Marketing & Communications colleagues and other departments, as needed.
  • Participates in integrating lateral partners in the region with respect to business development activities (e.g., networking, promotional opportunities, etc.).
  • Establishes and adheres to Department budgets; seeks opportunities to improve Department efficiency and reduce expenses by streamlining operations.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role does not currently have any direct reports but this may change at some point in the future. In the meantime, it does require the ability to coordinate and manage cross-department project teams where necessary including working closely with Marketing & Communications colleagues in Asia.
