THE TEAM

The UX Service provides support across ITS, for a range of solution design, development, and procurement activities. We provide hands-on services and guidance on accessibility, usability, user research, and design across a range of business-as-usual (BAU) and project-based activity.
As an inclusive organisation, the UXD team work closely with colleagues in ITS and The Equality Diversity and Inclusion Directorate, to ensure that digital systems and services are usable, accessible, and compliant with all relevant UK government legislation and digital standards.

We have a wealth of experience across a range of disciplines and sectors including creative agencies, marketing, e-commerce, higher education and user research.

THE PERSON

We are looking for a positive and proactive person who believes in the values of The University and wants to be part of a team that has a passion for improving the user experience for our staff, student, and research communities. We are open to considering those with a background in marketing, digital design, web development, business analysis, or similar roles. We would provide support, and training to the right candidate who shows a passion for user experience design, and a good understanding of the need for usable, accessible, and compliant solutions.
You will be someone who has a natural curiosity into human behaviour, and a drive to improve how things work and can considers the wider experience looking beyond delivering what is asked.

  • Possess work experience as a UX Designer or experience in a similar role.
  • Be capable of using methods like user-centered design and design thinking to create usable solutions.
  • Be knowledgeable of designing for accessibility, especially for people with disabilities.
  • Be proficient in using design and collaboration tools like Miro, Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
  • Have experience with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), including creating, reviewing, and modifying them.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

As a User Experience Developer/Designer, you will be part of the UX Team helping to support the delivery of solutions across BAU activities, projects, and procurement. You will use a user-centric approach to deliver UX, UI, and interaction designs that impact our communities’ experience in a positive way. You will also contribute to the realisation of The University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion goals you will ensure that solutions are compliant with UK government legislation on accessibility, focussing on The Equality Act 2010 and The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (PSBAR 2018).
